I am looking at purchasing a 2000 3/4 ton chevy crew cab 4x4 short bed 350v8 with auto trans with 157k miles

They want $6k for it.

My quick question is should I wait and get a bit of a newer truck.

I like the 350 and I like that body style. I some time could used the 3?4 tons.

I just not very excited about the 6.0L v8. Most everyone I talked to that had one says man it pulls and runs great but damn hard on gas.

Anyway any thought you guys might have would be great.

The one you are looking at is way too much money. Might be worth half of what they are asking at that mileage. That 350 vortec in a 2500 will be no better than a 6 liter mileage wise and the 6 will walk it all day long even stock. I used to run a 99 2500 350 truck.... yeah no.

Agreed.

Go with the 6.0 and if you can afford it go with a newer model with the 6 speed transmission.

Don't get me wrong, 350 is a good reliable motor. But it really sucks power wise and is usually worse on gas. The 6.0 makes a lot more power.

Too much Money for that year of truck...

for my Brothers Ford F150 that is a 2000 with same klm the going price is 4k also a 4x4 ( semi loaded options)

What milage do you get out of your 6L in your crewcab? Does it make a difference if it is a half ton or three quarter ton?

thanks again

the 6.0 is a WAY better then a 350... and the truck that is wrapped around the 6.0 is much better then the 00'.

not to mention 6k for that truck would be insane

I love the 6.0. In a half ton 2wd with 3.42 gears I get 17 on the hwy and 13 in town

I had the 99 2500 6.0 ext cab 2 wd truck for 186,000 miles and it was a great truck!! It would get fair mileage and beat the heck out of the 86 350 reg cab 2wd that I had before it. The 99 would out pull, out run and get better milage doing it!!! I traded in my 99 when I bought the 11 and it had some body damage but other than that was a solid truck for $2500.00 :jester:

Is their any years of the 6.0 I should avoid? If I can get on mileage taht my current pickup gets I would consider one. My pickup is a 98 half ton 4x4 xcab 350/auto.

I did pass on the 00 pick. My pickup I have now is better. over all shape.

It depends I guess. The engines themselves were oddballs in 99 and 2000 with iron heads and a longer snout where the flexplate mounts on the crank. The LQ4's got better connecting rods and full floating pin pistons mid year 2004....... but all that doesn't matter to the average consumer. Mileage or stock power will be about the same regardless.

Truckwise I like the 03's the best as they have the 03-07 interior with the nice little features deleted as you get newer.... like a glovebox lamp, actual carpeted top door panels, puddle lamps in the DL3 mirrors if so equipped and so on.

However I would buy 03-07 classic myself..... but I am biased lol. I am only talking heavy duty trucks myself and not any half ton models with 6 liters....
