Hey guys, I just wanted to know what type of oil and how much for an oil change, also what type of oil filter do I need for my 05 6.0 2500HD.

Check your manual for what was required when your truck was new... or check the oil fill cap. If you don't have a manual you can probably find it online. That should give a starting place and you can always use better oil and filters. My local guy will do a 6qt. lof for a little less than $40 using conventional oil. Prices goes up with synthetics depending on the brand/price of the oil. I don't know when GM started the Dexos "suggestion" but I think it's a synthetic blend and maybe not a bad compromise between Dino oil and full synthetic.

Seeing you have a 2005, I'd say either an AC Delco PF46 (if you can find the classic style buy a bunch as they are hard to find) or equivelant, and your choice of 5w30 motor oil. If the previous owner ran regular oil, then go for it. No need to switch to a synthetic or synthetic blend, but thats up to you.

Dexos is 2011 and newer. Btw...$40 for an oil change?!?!?!? You could do it yourself for half that!

Wife has 2005 Yukon Denali with 6.0. I use AC Delco PF46 and Mobil1 5w-30. You can use other compatible filters and non-synthetic but use 5w-30 oil as that is what it calls for. I buy my Mobil and filters when they are on sale and can do it for less than $40 but I do have to do it myself. I don't do it to save money, I prefer to do it so I don't worry about somebody screwing up and I get synthetic...
