What will E85 do for a 2013 6.2?

Has anybody tried E85 in their 6.2? And dynoded? According to the fuel tables with the 6.2 timing is reduced with E85. With the 5.3 timing is increased. Just wondering if E85 will increase power like it does in the 5.3.

We don't have any dyno sheets with e85. It is hard to find for most people out here and they don't like the MPG hit.

Sent from a jelly bean.

No dyno but I have run it since November 2009 in my 2010 6.2

If you are basing your findings on the butt meter it's not a very reliable source for modest gains. Really need dyno sheets or before and after 1/4 mile gains/losses to determine. With 1/4 needs to be almost same DA too.

Using EFILive. I'm also tuned to run better on e85. Sent from a jelly bean.

But will a 6.2 make more power with the stock tune was what I was trying to determine. In the stock tune file advance is actually lowered in the 6.2 which is opposite from the 5.3. I always thought more timing would be required to make more power with E85.

I'd tend to trust Blackbear when it comes to tuning related info. They're the experts.

I'm confident E85 would run better with a tune but for now I don't want to lose my 5 year warranty. Would just like to know if E85 would make a difference without tuning. Based on what I see in the file with my HP Tuner E85 would not produce more power than gasoline.

You don't automatically lose warranty. For one, something would have to go wrong with the engine/trans, which is rare on these trucks and second they'll need to show the tune is responsible for the failure. Blackbear has stood behind a member here who had an engine failure GM tried to blame on the tune and with BB's help, GM lost. Rightfully.

Do you mean the tune would interfere with the warranty or the e85 would?

I have ran several tanks of e85 (and e20, e27, and e35?) in mine and as the other posters say, the "butt dyno" did not really detect much. Being able to dam* near watch the needle move on E85 I could detect. I only switch when the price point tips it favor of or evens it up with regular "e10" or "e12".

Interesting!

CDFiXER: E85 wouldn't void the warranty alone. Only if you tune the truck would that happen but perhaps not from what Mike says if you go with Blackbear.

I'm only on my phone and am about to get on a plane but the thread was probably in summer 2011 in the HD section. Guy had a cam related issue if memory serves and GM tried to blame the tune on the failure and they lost the case.

Yep, I know that, just wanted to make sure 1)GM did not do something weird like make a 6.2 NOT compatible with E85 (black gas cap anyone?) 2)The poster meant the warranty issue might be with the tune. MikeNH took it from there and filled in all the good stuff...much better than I could.
