The Transmission

I know these trans are supposed to be adaptive and "learn" I have 1500 miles now... the trans has gotten a little better, but I'm still having trouble getting used to the grade/exhaust brake and the fact these trucks don't free roll as much as the old ones.

Even when I turn off grade brake... it seems the same. It reminds me of an old manual trans.. when you would down shift during slow down.

Again, I have 1500 miles... will the trans continue to improve?

i also noticed a few times... when the truck shifts from 2nd to 3rd ( or maybe it's from 1st to 2nd) it revs up right during the end of the shift. Anyone else notice this?

I have a 2 wheel drive double cab with 3.08 gears that does not rev between 2nd and 3rd gear, but I test drove a 2 wheel drive crew cab that did rev between 2nd and 3rd. It was an obvious rev and worriesome. I think the crew cab I drove had 3.08's but I can't swear to it.

My double cab now has 1800 miles on it and I can say that the transmission shifting and general performance of the truck has improved. It doesn't bog as much between gears as it did new, and it shifts a bit later and smoother now. When I first got it, it was really quick to shift up in gears causing the truck to bog.

One more comment, I think the variable valve timing is the biggest problem. I idle around all day while working out of my truck. When I leave work and need the truck to get up and go on the highway, it seems to have adapted to idling around all day and doesn't want to go. After i drive on the highway a while it "adapts" and runs great.
