removing 'CHEVROLET' trim plate off 89 tailgate?

I picked up a 89 Chevrolet tailgate to put on my gmc. I need to take that full length 'CHEVROLET' trim plate off since it is going on gmc. It is near mint so hoping to get it off without wrecking. This is a 89 tailgate so it is the solid one (no handle cut-out) and has chevy letters all the way across. Is their holes under it? or is it just glue?.. Thanks on any experience on this.

Heat it and peel it off. You will have a 3m tape disaster under it so be prepared. Get a 3m eraser wheel and take it all off that way. I did it on my 96 as I changed the band out as the original was getting ugly.... eraser wheel and done. I did the same on my 92. No holes just 3m. If it was ever painted you will find out as they will hide any imperfections under there lol.

i would think that a truck that old would have some fading underneath... i could be wrong.

i took that same tailgate trim off a 95 silvy and it wasnt faded but looked a little off... looked perfect after a nice buff and wax..

like someone else said.. get an 3M eraser wheel
