'Krown' rust protection

Do not undercoat a GM truck with anything!!!!

Our trucks have a black waxy frame protectant on them that will soften and fall off, leaving bare metal, if you undercoat them. I treated my 2011 silverado with a similar product to krown called fluid film and it majorly softened and weakend the frame coating. Your best bet to keep GM trucks rust free is to rinse them with fresh water weekly if you do any hard mudding or driving in the snow/winter weather. Keep the undercarriage clean and rinsed with fresh water and it will last a long time. If you really want to go the extra mile, you can buy an aerosol can of the black frame coating from the parts guy at your dealer. Touch up the black coating on the frame every few years and that will help.

I still use and recommend oil based undercoating like fluid film, just not for GM trucks.

I've sprayed the underside of my truck with Fluid Film since the second or third year I owned it and have no complaints. In fact, I just did the wife's Sorento for the second time today and the thing looks spotless for being almost 2 years old.

Do a thorough google search for this topic. First off the factory waxy black frame coating comes off really easily on its own. There are even TSB's on the issue. Fluid film and other coatings soften it even more and make it come off even worse.

99 Silverado- I am not calling you a liar but please take some pics of your frame and upload them here. I am interested in how your frame looks. Just a few days after fluid filming my truck, the frame coating softened so much so that I can easily scrape it off the frame with my finger nail, with almost no pressure. Maybe my truck got a bad treatment or something.

Wow you guys are brave. I am trying to warn you so your frame doesn't look like mine does after I fluid filmed it. I want you to make a video of you scraping your frame with your finger nail after fluid film has sat on it for a few weeks. I am guessing you will have black waxy junk under your finger nail. Keep in mind I am only talking about the actual frame. The rest of the undercarriage wont be bothered by fluid film.
