Rear Wiper Problem

About two or three weeks ago my rear wiper started acting up on my 99 Blazer.  It would just stop while I had it on, sticking almost straight up.  It was awlays the same position.  I would turn it on and off over and over but that only made it start working one time.  I did find that if I left it turned on , I could get out and go back there and nudge it in the right direction and it would start again.  It acted like it got stuck when it would get to this position, always on the way back.

 

Now it doesn't even do that.  When I turn it on, it will move from its cradle on the tailgate to the very bottom of the window and stop.  When I turn it off it does return to the cradle, but that is all it will do.

 

Is this the motor for the rear wiper or something else?  And whatever it is, does anyone know how hard will it be to fix it myself?  I've never takem the molding off odf the inside of the tailgate, so I don't know what I'm getting into.

Sounds like the motor.  My '91 windshield moter motor acted the same way.  I changed the motor and it fixed it.  The motor wasn't cheap though.  If I remember correctly, it was around $60-$70 from Advace Auto Parts.  

 

The panel should be fairly easy to pop off.  I'd have to look closely at it to see if it has thosee plastic pop-pin things that hold interior pieces on, or screws, or something else.

 

A lot of the '88-'99 fullsize trucks had a problem with a curcuit card or something like that.  A lot cheaper than a motor from what I hear.  don't know if it could be something like that on yours.

 

Check NAPA, Advance, etc so see how much a motor is, and I can hook you up the next time you come down, or I come up there, if you can wait that long.  Dad should be able to do it do, if he has time.

I don't know about on mine, but I know those circiuts you're talking about are only about $5 or $10 cheaper than the whole motor on the fullsized trucks.  One of my buddies here replaced his not long ago.  He did say however, that the circuit was ten times easier to replace than the motor was on his truck, b/c of the stuff in his way trying to replace the motor.

 

I'll probably stop by his garage in Fayetteville the next time I go home and he and I will take that interior piece off and look at it.  I just wandered if anyone had had this problem already and could tell me for sure what it is and what we're getting into before we start.
