Plastic tailgate handle broken again!

Recommended Posts

This will be the 3rd time I am replacing this damn tailgate handle. They always seem to fail at exactly the same location (see picture).

Anyone know if there is there metal handle available?

Truck is a GMT800 2006 Sierra.

Everything is plastic these days it seems, that being said:

I've never seen one break and we got lots of trucks at my job. What are you doing to break them lol

The latch on the side that the handle snapped seemed to be a bit more difficult to pull. Cleaned up the mechanisms and adjusted the latches on either side to even out the tension when the gate is closed. Hopefully that will do the trick, New handle on order from Amazon. This never would have been a problem if the handles were still metal. Was hoping I could find an aftermarket metal handle, but no such luck.

Push in slightly on the tailgate to take some of the tension off the latch pins

I noticed that does help, but when I have a bed full of firewood that's easier said than done.

You think the tail gate handle is bad. See what happens when inside door handles break on gmt 900 series trucks. You need a whole door panel!
