Aluminum Replacement Bumper Options

Hello all,

A friend is looking for an aluminum full replacement bumper for his 2009 one ton cab and chassis dodge. There are three examples at http://www.herd.com/products/ on the right hand side. I am wondering if any of you know where I might find more/different options similar to this. I have found a few other companies that boast that their products are constructed from high quality aluminum and what not, but many are finished with black paint. He is looking for shinny, polished aluminum, or equivalent. What are some companies that offer what we are looking for? Thanks

I don't really know of any big aluminum bumper companies. Everyone here has steel. Some companies may offer a metallic powder coat that could be applied to a steel one.

Kstruckcountry,

Thanks for the reply. He actually went ahead and ordered the herd xl. It came in the other day, but they accidentally sent the sport model. He has one of these beds:

so he wants the bumper to match. I'll upload some pictures when we get the bumper installed, and get the rest of the truck polished. They said it would be a month before the correct bumper gets here :/

Yeah there are lots of those Hillsboro beds around here, I'm about an hour and a half from the company.

I don't know why it would take so long. I got one of the first bumpers Thunderstruck made for a 2003-07 half ton and it took them less than a week from my order to a powdercoated bumper waiting for me to pick it up at my local mechanic. I'm surprised a bigger company doesn't keep any ready to ship.

:dunno:

I almost hit a deer the week after I got mine.

Right on. We bought the pickup used and the bed was already on it. I'd never heard of the company before. Everyone around here rocks the deweze.

We can't buy direct from Herd (that I am aware of). The dealer we ordered from had us a bumper to out shop in around 7 business days. It just wasn't the right model. I guess they don't have the one he wanted in stock. So far they have been really cool about the whole mix-up. When it's all said and done I might give them a recommendation here.

I'm glad their service was good.

Dew-Eze bale beds used to be very popular here, but they started getting leaky on people. Most people have Krogman or Hydrabed now. There are 3 Krogman beds between the guys I work for and they're very well built. I don't know how we got along before them.

^^^^ My blog post has been updated. From now on, most of my posts will be made on the blog. This allows people that aren't members of the forum to see the photos. I used to just use photobucket for image hosting, but their site is getting ridiculously stupid with advertisements.

Thanks! I actually didn't think I would like it. I thought it would be best to just paint (or powder coat) the existing one white. I actually think it looks pretty good. Now, we need to get the rest of the rig polished.

I've always wondered about those bumpers....are they made to bolt up in a way that would allow you to push something without the air bags going off?

Mike...ignorant about a lot more things than this

Depends on what it is and how hard you initially hit it. They are designed for protecting the truck from deer. But you can push another vehicle from a stop no problem.

How much does it weigh?

I will look at the shipping info tomorrow. I should be able to get a pretty accurate number from that.

It bolts directly to the frame. It mounts up the exact same as the steal full replacement that was on it when we bought the pickup. I could only assume that the factory bumper was the same. As Danny said, you could probably push a disabled vehicle just fine as long as you don't get a running start at it.

    • On 2021 3500hd it consistently sets automatically when selecting park if the incline/decline is above a certain angle.
    • Curious, did anyone ever get a fix for the vibration reported here.   I have a 2024 Silverado with 6.6 duramax.   I’m noting the same vibration resonating up through the steering shaft into the steering wheel.    Best way to describe- like someone is tapping on the steering shaft/components and it’s resonating into the steering wheel.    thanks.
    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions?
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
