Ever Build Prior to Build Date

Recommended Posts

I have a build date of the 18th. Do they ever build ahead of time? I'm getting really anxious for my new truck.

I am thinking it will still be a while as the shipping estimate is close to 4 weeks from mexico to canada.

Funny - reply above. I have only built 6 trucks. They have never been early for me. I am waiting on one now and I feel your pain! Do you have an order number? I PM's Jennifer T. from GM on this forum and she has given me good updates on the build process. I should get mine next week... not to rub it in. :)

I asked Jennifer to check on my build #, but apparently she doesn't have access to info on a Canadian order. Who would have thought that would matter?! (they're all going down the same line after all.........)

I had to contact my salesman to find out the build date.

Other than hearing of guys whose trucks have shown up earlier than anticipated (status updates weren't accurate during shipping, after the truck was built), it doesn't sound like they're ever BUILT earlier than expected.

Actually the Canuck versions are not going down the same line. They are built with bilingual instrument cluster and are done in separate run orders. I only know this because i built a couple in Alberta.

You're saying it's a completely separate assembly line?? Kind of surprised by that. When they were building trucks here in Oshawa, they all went down the same line ... Silverados and Sierras (all extended cabs) ... Canadian or American truck, didn't matter ... fact is, probably ~90% or more of them were destined for the U.S. anyway.

As far as I know, same goes for the Camaros, Impalas and Buicks currently coming out of Oshawa. It's all one line, producing cars bound for either country.

But who knows, maybe things are different in Mexico??

they don't have a Canadian and American line by any means. What I am saying is that they are not mixed in production like the going down the same line inferred when I read it. They are ran separately and have different systems involved for QA etc... Hence why the production status system the USA uses is not the same as the Canadian version. They have a Canadian one works the sea way just has a couple different status codes. It is not available to the US service reps. When they run GM vehicles in Canada same situation. Same two systems participate.

Well.....too bad. I was hoping that with all of the Denali production dates being moved later, that mine would naturally move up.

Oh well.....it will be built next week and then shipped. I am hoping this mean I get it the 2nd or 3rd week of december

If anything look for the date to slip. Mine moved back two weeks from the original schedule. There seem to be component issues, "constraints". Both V-8 engines may result in 4 week delays. But.....GM is bound to get caught up soon so yours could be on time. It's fun to order just what you want but then the anticipation builds and builds. Good luck!

Ok, so what you're saying is they do a "production run" of one, and then a run of the other? (and not a back-and-forth mix, every other truck). THAT makes sense! I probably mis-read your first post then :).

I can't remember the exact number, but I know when they were building trucks up here, the ratio was well into the ~90% range (or higher) that all went to the US. Sure, the population is 10 times higher, but I think per-capita, there are even more trucks sold in the US than Canada, so it made production closer to ~95% US trucks, and a small percentage built to stay this side of the border. Not sure if that's changed much in the last ~10 years?!

They probably only have to do a 1-day Canadian production run every couple weeks to keep up with the demand here!

Well, so much for the rules .........who says Christmas can't come early?!?! :D

Ok, not that I'll be getting my truck delivered tomorrow or anything, HOWEVER, I was just provided with a VIN, which would pretty much imply that my truck is somewhere in production!! :) I don't have any more details at this point, other than, obviously it's gonna be done BEFORE Nov. 18th! (which was the date I'd been given a couple weeks back). So I guess they sometimes DO build them early! Now let's see how long the shipping process will take?!?!? :happysad:

I built my LT with max tow package SEP 27. Was told they were going to start building that option 14 OCT 13 I beleive. Truck showed up 23 OCT 13. Did it build early I dont know as if you watch the build codes once it goes into the que it goes and gets built, they just dont pick a date and if your hit or miss thats what happens. But once your order is in que which who knows the formula for that one, its probably part first come first servce, but also dealer allocation has a play.

So really mine was built and shipped in little less than 2 weeks.

The vin is not released until the vehicle has been built.

They should be able to build any mix of us/can versions on line just like they mix any other option - colours, levels, wheels etc on the line (assuming of course that the necessary component(s) are available from the supplier base). The days of building large batches of identical units are long gone.
