2014 sierra problems serious

Ok, not to treat this lightly, but perhaps you have the missing NASCAR truck. It is factory set to turn left all the time and occasionally dart around.

Have you ever turned the steering wheel lock to lock, counting the turns and then put it back exactly 1/2 of the turns? This should be the position of the steering wheel when it is going straight. If your truck has a steering box, not a rack/pinion, an off center gear coupled with an out of alignment condition could cause darting and wandering.

You may be right.

Back in the shop again today.

I think they are going to try a new steering box this time.

Well they had the truck 9 days but said they couldn't reproduce the problem this time. The day I picked it up it was -17 F, I pulled out of the dealers lot and went up the street about 5 blocks and it started pulling in a arc over the centerline again. Ran it up to about 40MPH and it kept doing it. Went back to get the dealers SM and take him for a drive. This took about 12 minutes to get back. Now of course it wouldn't pull left but did when you used the brakes, so still not right. He said he would talk to GM next week. He did, they said they wouldn't just keep throwing parts at it until it gets worse. !!!!!!!! (put that on my gravestone) I asked for a price on the steering box to change it myself and they haven't got back yet, its been a week,

So now for a funny part: The truck is not highway safe (imo) and has only been used to run around town. (its about 5.5 months old and has only 4K miles on it, what a joke) -anyway- We used it to pick up some pizza the other day and after returning home left the windows down to "air out" the pizza smell. So the next morning I go to depart for work and roll the windows up.. 20F aprx

And all FOUR outside black plastic trim Pcs snap OFF !!!!~!~!!! Ha Ha Ha Ha....

Yes the truck was in the garage, but there must have been trace amounts of water on the glass. Hit the switch and Snap Snap Snap Snap What a JOKE, Honestly.

I'm sorry to sound like a broken record, but you have MORE than enough case to lemon law this truck. Its a straight out slam dunk, you will get every penny you spent on it back.

Get rid of it, why are you wasting your time/energy.

I hear you and you are right. I have been so buried in work and personal projects I just didn't want to have to deal with fighting with GM on a lemon issue. I have read around the net at the horrid stories about how GM treated lemon customers and they were ugly fiascos.

That said I did throw the towel in today and sent in the lemon paperwork. They have 30 days to respond. I will keep you all up to date on how they treat me on this issue, good or bad. GMs track record so far (with me) has been pretty piss poor, but maybe they'll redeem themselves this time around. ?

Glad to hear that. TBH as I mentioned a while ago I think theres a fundamental frame issue with your truck and I was worried that even if they got it "right" one day it would still go wrong. Hope it works out, and don't be afraid to lawyer up.

A number of years ago a coworker bought a new Dodge pickup. It had vibration issues since day1, they balanced the tires, changed tires, wheels. They balanced the driveshaft and then changed it... he finally had enough and started the lemon law paperwork. The offer was not very good and he ended up trading it in at another dealer and getting a better deal for another new truck than he would have gotten with the lemon law... I guess it depends on many factors on how well you come out.

While he still had his old truck (with the vibration), I ended up following him on the freeway. His truck had problems, the backend was tracking to the right, so he was 'crabbing' down the road... he thought I was just giving him crap and never had it looked at...

Wish ya luck with whatever happens.. Have you driven any other new HD's? Is it only yours that does this? I have a 14 HD too and haven't had any issues at all

Thanks for the support.

Not all that interesting, but GM Rcvd the lemon letter on 2/27. On of their legal guys called Tues with case information etc. He said we would have their offer in 4-5 days. I will let you all know what they submit and how things proceed.

Curious to see what they offer. What do you hope they offer? Or what do you think will be offered?

A legal rep from GM called today and said they would be replacing the truck. No details on the "deal" as of yet. There are some very significant "loss cost" issues on this thing so it wont be a straight exchange in any case.

Ill let you all know as the details come in.

    • I'm glad you have 14,000 trouble free miles. Frankly though, that's a really low bar. A bare minimum of 80,000 trouble free miles as the norm (rare exceptions always exist) across the whole model year should be a starting point. Good maintenance habits should push these past the 100,000 mile mark with only the most minor of issues. Let's hope GM truly leveled up the quality game with these new engines and exploding engines under 50,000 miles are gone.
    • This is exactly the reason our EV has consumed so much of my driving. I don't want to fire up a cold diesel or gas engine just to drive 2 miles up to the store. It's arguably terrible for an engine. If I'm not driving at least 10 miles and don't need to do truck things, the truck stays parked.   Enter the EV. It's immediately heating or cooling the cabin as needed (heat pump). An engine doesn't need to warm up or be driven gently. I can tear off in it with ZERO guilt. Move the car 1/4 mile from store to store and not think "gee, I'm short-cycling a lukewarm engine".   It doesn't idle in a drive-through. Doesn't idle at stop lights. (OK, neither would the diesel, if I let stop-start have its way, but I don't).   Even moving it out of the garage to wash it... HA! It doesn't need to be started just to move 40 feet. I have cars that I will actually put in neutral and push (no start) in/out of the garage or shop if they absolutely HAVE to be moved. My nice Camaros.

    • Great video. I almost want to reserve one now.
    • I traced the atf cooling system in my 1500 and it comes out of the transmission, into the bar/plate liquid/liquid heat exchanger, as stated above.  Then it crosses over to the external thermostat/bypass and then  to the aux cooler in front of the main radiator.  Hence, on this routing, the PPE thermostat bypass eliminator is an $85 piece of bling that does nothing for reducing atf temps on this truck.  I think I'll temporarily clamp a needle nose vise grip on the coolant feed hose to the bar/plate cooler and see how much the atf temp drops.  With the use of ULV trans fluid, I'm not convinced running the trans cooler than OEM spec is going to be detrimental to the life of the transmission.    I found this interesting on the Dana/Long site stating that they make transmission cooling/heating bar plate heat exchangers.  I worked with Dana/Long on a few projects when I was at the gas powered fun factory. https://www.dana.co.jp/downloads/PTG/Long/Dana_TOC_SpecSht.pdf  Bar plate heat exchangers are just a stack of stamped parallel path fluid channels, assembled and vacuum furnace brazed to make the final assembly.  Want more cooling/heating, just stack more plates until you run out of package space.   Anyway, thanks for the info, much appreciated.
