2014 sierra problems serious

Well, some of you may had read my previous threads on my 2014 2500 CC sierra 6.0 .,

Ive had it. Im parking this potential death trap until the dealer buys it, fixes it, or replaces it.

I know the word death trap is asking for trouble from GM.

But its the simple fact that when you apply the brakes the truck should not go in the other lane.

Today on a decel ramp my kids and I had a close call. At around 50 mph after applying the brakes the wheel spun out of my hand and into the left side lane. The same condition re-occurred two more times on different roads and then quit. This crap has got to get fixed, and I have to be made whole.

This truck is unpredictable in nature and simply dangerous.

Its going back again Friday and can stay there till ?

I intend to post every detail good and bad of the proceedings.

Happy turkey to you all.......

BTW, if any of you can suggest items that would cause this I would like to hear your opinion, Im out of ideas. This from a long long time gear head of many fields.

I had the same problem with my 2011 Silverado 2500 HD....started after about 3000 miles. The dealer gave me a loaner truck and 3 days later I had mine back with new front brake calipers....they also changed out the pads and rotors but stated they strongly felt the caliper on the left side was the culprit - and a thorough brake flush was done as well....no further problems after that.....best of luck with yours.

Yes, A few weeks ago it went to the selling dealer and they said it was fine, normal, unable to duplicate, could be the road, the wind, the vehicle loading, etc. Didn't even bleed the calipers. Kinda got the blowoff.

After the first exchange I don't have much faith in the selling dealer and am going to take it to a different one.

And yes Im going to be cool as its not really their baby so I don't want to be a prick to them.

Truck is supposed to be in Mnpls tomorrow for a job, but no way! RED TAG!

if ya have time ,road test with either the shop foreman, tech , or the serv manager so it can be duplicated ,,,

good luck

WOW, more top notch GM service. Given the dangerous and serious nature of the problem on this wreck I though it would be a expedite issue. Nope, no way.

Tried to get it in Friday, Nope.

Saturday, Nope

Monday, Nope

Tuesday, Nope

Wednesday, yea ! "we can do a quick ride along" I said book 3 hours possibly.

This is suppose to be our new plow truck as well. Great ,just got a few inches of snow but no plow as of yet. We decided not to put it on twice if we trade this thing off. arrrgh.

Rep could have cared LESS about the seriousness of the issue. Went on to tell me about how hard it is to track down HVAC problems ?? WTH.

Listen, I am nobodies safety nerd by any stretch, but it looks like my life and my kids don't mean jack to GM.

One thing for sure, your word means NOTHING! If they cant verify it, its a non event.

Put on my tombstone "verified"

More later...............

C5 Corvettes(97-04) can have this happen. It's usually a steering wheel position sensor. If your truck has stibillity control, it should have one.

Sounds like its a caliper problem or something of the sort as posted by Hspore, I would have them investigate that. Also sounds like you have some sh!tty dealerships in your area.

Yea real nice. I had to make a several hundred mile trip up north this weekend. Cant trust the brand new truck. Too dangerous to drive at highway speeds. In the recent new low temps its even worse than before, as unlikely as that sounds.

So instead of driving my brand new 2014 GMC truck.... I had to borrow a 12 year old Chrysler minivan with 140K miles on it from a friend. Lots of sqweeks and rattles but it drove nice. Im getting more PO'd by the day with this GMC clunker.

Snow coming, no plow, more wasted time and money and aggravations thanks to the defective gm truck and lousy gm service.

So, called gm cust service today. Explained the issues in full detail. I wanted to make sure the dealer was going to be given extra rope to get thing 100% fixed. Not, (pretty sure that's it) etc.

Got the corporate fluff, canned phrases, script ," we will advise the dealer of your concerns?" what? They know my concerns.

Total waste of time.

Pertaining to my 1997 GMC K1500:

about 10-12 years ago there were thousands of complaints and numerous vehicle crashes on NHTSA's website pertaining to this erratic steering issue. 1997 was the first year VSS (variable speed steering) was introduced into GM's product line. There is a sensor that is mounted to the steering column under the dash. It's a rotary type potentiometer. It is tied into the ECM and also a solenoid that is mounted inside the power steering pump. At slow speeds, this allows for fingertip steering capabilities. As you increase speed, it becomes harder to steer as the steering wheel is turned (increased resistance). This is accomplished by the solenoid in the power steering pump. The solenoid either increases or decreases line pressure to the steering gearbox depending on vehicle speed and rotation of the steering wheel.

NHTSA conducted an investigation and cleared GM of any design flaws. I'm going to assume NHTSA was paid off handsomely since GM incoporated this VSS feature into millions upon millions of vehicles. GM never issued a recall or technical bulletin to fix this problem. But you know how it is......if nobody gets killed because of it, the problem is ignored and if someone sues, a corporation simply settles out of court to make the problem go away.

I'm quite familiar with this problem. It is most prevalent on nice sweeping turns at around 40 mph. The steering wheel violently jerks out of your hand. What's happening is ECM is experiencing a glitch. The potentiometer provides a false reading and sends a signal to the ECM which sends a signal to the solenoid in the power steering pump to provide full power assist (increase in line pressure). I've replaced this VSS sensor about 4 times since I've owned my 1997 GMC K1500 with 155,000 miles on it thinking that was the problem. The VSS does not appear to be the "complete" problem as again, it's a simple potentiometer. I've taken them apart and there is nothing to them. This leads me to believe there is a glitch in the ECM.

So what I've done is remove the VSS from the steering column and taped it into a TDC position to keep it from rotating. I'm in essence tricking the ECM. The downside to this is that steering can be a little lighter than I'd like at highway speeds. But, the ECM also takes into account road speed and adjusts the solenoid accordingly. It's not like I have full power assist going down the road at 70 mph. If you decide to disconnect the wiring harness from the solenoid or the VSS, you'll have full power assist at any road speed and it is very dangerous.

Even with my modication in place, I will experience the VSS glitch, but the frequency at which I experience it is very low. Hope this helps.

I wonder if your truck could be experiencing a similar problem.

In the aviation business we call planes that don't stay fixed hanger queens. I guess my new 2014 gmc truck is destined to be a shop queen.

Hanger queens get resold in Africa, south America, or the old soviet block nations. Where do we send shop queens? Iraq?

Well 9 days in shop and still no truck. That makes 12 total so far ! Might get it back Thursday, their just not sure its "right" yet. Cant blame then, its full of model issues.

Current dealer (#2) found a issue the selling dealer (#1) flat out lied twice about. Lied when we picked it up new, and lied again when we picked it up the first time it was in for steering problems.

This POS is costing me a bundle in snow plowing and trailer hauling that I have to farm out as its broke.

10+ hours of going back and forth to the dealers, over 1,000 miles on borrowed cars as this truck is too unsafe for highway use.

Total BONE JAB from GM !! You think they would have learned something after the tax payers bailed them out and still lost 10.3 billion of OUR dollars. NOPE, same shitty company that don't give a crap about the customer. How long till the next bailout?

Well got the thing back a few weeks ago and all seemed well. Sorta. Truck still had what I would call bad road manners but was drivable.

Yesterday though the darting over the centerline started all over again. Once again I was lucky no one was in the other lane.

SO, truck goes back to "out of service", RED TAG, too dangerous to drive until it can get back to the dealer for the third time for a possible fix.

I tried to call GM but got NO WHERE ! The only thing these guys will respond to is a lawsuit I guess. Forget about brand loyalty with this outfit as they sure have forgot about any whisp of customer loyalty.

Plan to contact DOT for a DOTI case, NTSB, NHTSI and CSU and get as much paper work headed GMs way as possible.

You as the reader should care as well. This truck could have came over the center line and killed you as well.

BTW, Im sure you want to know what got fixed (?) Well gm engineers recommended they replace the hydroboost unit. They think a pressure error in the HBU was causing the worm gear in the steer box to move fore/aft and cause the truck to dart when brakes applied. Why not replace the box as well? <<<- this as explained to me 3rd hand, not VB gm engineering.

Funny. I had to drive the damn thing to the bank today. Im sitting in the drive through window and the girl asks me if there's something wrong with my truck !!!!

Rattle rattle click click click rattle. Honestly how em bare assing.

What a rattle trap junker.

Haha, I told her all the new Gm's do that. Just as the mechanic told me. She smiled and shook her head.
