GM's press release on this is laughable. Talk about trying to spin bad news into good.

I rented an "economy" car in Calais, France.

It was a Chevrolet. Manual transmission.

But not any Chevrolet known in US.

 

It was quite a modest car. Quite small.

Not the Aveo. Some European specific model.

I did notice that the rear passenger windows did not open.

the Sonic is actually still called the Aveo in Europe. Top Gear UK Actually "Tested" a UK Spec 2009 Aveo5 along with two other cars, and lets just say my fellow Aveo Owners over on the AveoForums DID NOT Like Top Gear's "Review". (it was actually a VERY HARSH Bashing of the 3 cars, with the Aveo unfortunately taking the brunt of it.)

No surprise. GM does not make the type of vehicles that sale over there. Different world, different expectations. I though the Cruze had a chance but it was not successful.

 

Opel and Vauxhull don't sell well in Europe? That's news to me. I'd be more worried if there were actually a market for new cars, the economy in Europe makes what the US went through look like a walk in the park.

 

 

As for the Top Gear test, what do you expect? They're horrible to everything they test, be it an Aveo or a Ferrari. ;)
