Problem with my GMC

I did not know who else to ask but a bunch of truck lovers so here is my question. Maybe you guys can help me out. I have a 97 GMC Sierra Z-71 ext. cab. I am having a steering problem. Every so often the wheel will just jerk on me. Not dramatically but it will just pull out of the blue or slightly when I move the wheel either way. When I am in a lane change or a turn especially is when it just jerks. Already checked my fluids and everything is fine. Do any of you know what may be causing this. My mother used to have a 97 Chevy silverado and it did the same thing but my dad traded it in right after it started. Any help will do! thanks guys ???

Geez... I remember this problem, but I can't really remember the exact cause. I think it may be in the steering box itself or the rack (a pressure valve perhaps? ) . Hopefully someone else will pipe in here and give you the specifics.

My 97 had it, too! Easy fix: EVO sensor. jar0023 helped me with mine:

EVO (electric variable orifice) sensor. "P/N 26064468

It's located at the bottom of the steering column, under the dash. GM says it takes 1 hour to install. The sensor I listed above is for a '97 Tahoe, which I would assume to be the same thing as you GMC. The symptoms you described fit with what this Tahoe is doing. I got the sensor for about 35 bucks at the local dealership. I haven't tried to install the switch yet, but I hope it takes care of the problem"

And, just for new models:

Owners of some 1999-2002 Sierra or Silverado 2500HD and 1500HD pickups may comment about a rattle noise from the steering colunm, particularly during low speed parking lot maneuvers.

A new stub shaft bearing kit 26099860 has been released to address this issure. The kit contains a bearing, a packet of lubricant and instructions. The stub shaft bearing kit number is 26099860. The

new bearing is a tight hand fit. You must use a

special tool for this job. Tool # J-45798 and it

doesn't come with the kit mentioned earlier.
