Dual battery installed

I just completed my dual battery setup. So if anyone wants to do this and needs help give me a shout I'd be more than happy to help.

On 99- 07 classic it is almost ready to go from the factory some trucks even came with dual batteries so there are oem parts for this.

No pics right now I can take some tomorrow for ya though but idk how to post them here on my phone. So if you wanna give my your email ill send them to ya.

I ran 7 ft of 2 ga from original battery to my xscorpion 200 amp relay (mounted above a/c lines on passenger side firewall) then from there to aux battery on passenger side by fire wall. Had to remove brace and mounting tab.

Xscorpion 200 amp relay is connected to a regular relay that is key/run hot so I can self jump start. All connections for this relay are under the hood in the fuse box. There are two constant hots that are there with nuts and I raise the fuse panel to find the ignition key hot side of the fuse and tap it with a t tap.

All together with new battery this cost about 230. The new battery was most of it. I got the solenoid for 34 from sonicelectronix.com, aux tray from gmpartsdirect.com for 20.00. The wire I got oreilys for 32.

Yep that's the one. I just have a normal relay running it to turn it off an on from the ignition wire.

Dual batts is a smart way to go. Does this system actually charge the aux battery? I debated on which way to go and ended up using the painless digital power manager since it does keep the aux charged up. It's really only intended to help out a partially drained main. Haven't had the main go dead yet so can't say if it works for sure, but figure I can always just hook up the jumper cables and go. On my 08 the extra battery tray was already there, just had to buy a hold down bracket.

Yes it charges both batts. When I flip my key a normall relay powers the battery isolator solenoid and links the two together. So in the event of a dead primary batt the aux will start the truck. The alternater is wired only to the primary but as the positives are linked thru the solenoid the aux batt gets charged to.

I did this setup as a preemptive measure for when I get my winch. It will be wire directly to the aux battery as I have top and side post on it. This way if my truck was to die in the middle of a pull I could just turn the key off and preserve the main batt.
