Folding mirrors...one won't work!

Using the folding mirrors, the passenger side was sporatic, where it would fold in and wouldn't fold out, so I would have to get out of the truck and go around and pull it out.

Now it doesn't fold in or out at all.

I checked with the dealer since I have the extended warranty. Well, come to find out, the warranty I have has a $100.00 deductable. They said that is good because the part that could be damaged or broke is inside the mirror and replacing a mirror could cost $500.00, so I told them I would do it later since the warranty still has a couple of years to it.

Checking with the parts dept. they said the mirror lists for $291.57.

So is there a cheaper way to fix this without going through the dealer, or is $100.00 a good deal to get this fixed?

Anyone else had this problem?

I think this happened when I would take my truck to the car wash and those guys would push the mirrors in and out running it through the car wash but I also hear that it shouldn't damage the mirrors by pushing them in and out.

Maybe after getting it fixed I will wash it myself.

So what is the verdit?

I've seen them cheaper on E-bay for new take-offs. You will be able to offset the cost when you sell your old defective mirror. Some guys just want the mirror glass with the LED signal and the associated wiring.

Sounds like a bad actuator.. When building them we folded them manually because we had to test/check them that way. It doesn't make any noise if you hold the button down? It could be off track, try having someone hold the button while you help it get on track if it's not getting on track on it's own.

If you have to replace, $100 is a deal. I had one replaced and the tech needed a good hour plus to replace and he knew what he was doing.

The deductible would be the least expensive way to go, seeing as they are likely going to replace the whole assembly. The reason may be due to how complicated it is to disassemble and reassemble if all that was being replaced was the actuator. While I don't believe getting to the actuator involves disassembly of the mirror unit itself, which I had the unfortunately pleasure to experience, it probably involves removal from the door to access the actuator, which means it's probably easier for a direct mirror replacement than to spend the extra time removing and replacing the actuator ... if that is even the problem that is diagnosed in the first place. It's up to them in this case, once the deductible is paid anyway.

I would just pay the $100 and get it over with.

No clue why, but I have been seeing more and more problems with these power fold mirrors on the GMT 900 trucks. The drivers side mirror on my brothers 09 Tahoe just went out. And I have been seeing a lot of threads about this same issue on other forums.
