2014 Sierra won't crank

I posted this in a remote start thread so please forgive me. I just picked up my 2104 Sierra SLE All Terrain last night.

I put all of about 25 miles on the truck last night...fell in love with it.

This morning wouldn't crank. Remote start wouldn't work...went out to key start it...it was 1 degree F outside, but hey...it's Michigan.

I turned the key all lights, radio, 12v on the battery...turned key over...nothing. Turned key repeatedly about 15 times...she started. shut her off...turned key...wouldn't crank...repeated turning they key....finally cranked and started. I drove her to work where she is sitting outside getting cold...I called the dealer and they want to bring it in.

I hope she does the same thing and I can get a tech to see it.

I knew this was a potential problem from reading all of the great posts on here...I was just hoping not to land the problem.

Does anyone know if GM has a fix?

Thanks

The flapper valve on the exhaust is known to freeze shut and prevent starting. Hit up a search im pretty sure this has been covered.

was the engine turning over when it wouldn't start or was it just "click" and nothing. if it was turning over it sounds like the exhaust valve was frozen shut. but if the starter was not engaging and not turning the motor then it would be something else. ive from the south but some cars up north have issues with the starters being frozen? if so that sounds like it could have been the issue. GL with the fix.

Thanks for the responses...click and nothing...wouldn't crank. My dealers service manager said they had one other so far and GM had them replace the starter. So we'll see what happens. I'll post the results.

Love the thing when it starts though....what a ride.

I dropped it off at noon. The service manager had spoke with GM and they told him to replace the starter. They are having a starter overnighted...but GM told them any starter made after December should be fine. So the Dealer is pulling the starter off of a later build to swap to my truck. My truck was built in October 2013.

So...I guess we'll see how it goes.

I had the exact same problem the first few days of ownership. It hasn't happened to me in the last 7-10 days. I bought the truck 1/2/14.

Hummmmm.... I've used the remote start to go out 5 minutes later to find the truck wasn't running. I thought it was me and my parking spot. I wonder...

I've also noticed and was wondering if this was normal, all I have to do it turn the key all the way to start and release the key and there will be a delayed start as if I was holding the key all the way over in crank to start. All the other vehicles I have ever owned had to hold the key all the way over to crank it . if it wasn't all the way over they wouldn't crank to start.

It started today after being -3 f last night and 0 this morning.

I hope this truck doesn't become the nicest paperweight I've ever owned.
