I did a search on here and didn't come up with any info on this topic, so please forgive me if it has already been addressed.

Don't want to sound naive, but what is the purpose of the wheel arch moldings? I know you can order them body color as a $650 option, but would prefer to avoid that. Can they be removed? It looks as though it would leave a inset in the body since they are flush with the rest of the fender. I like the look of the chevy fenders but just wondering what the reasoning behind GMC adding these was.

Thanks in advance for any insight!

They are for protection & aesthetics...

Protection - the prevent fender edges from rock chips, etc

Aesthetics - they give the Sierra an extra something to differentiate itself from the Silverado

You can remove them but the fenders have mounting holes for the trim which will be exposed for all to see.

That's along the lines of what I was thinking. I have never really had an issue with the edges chipping in my previous vehicles which is why I asked. Thanks for the input guys!
