My oil pressure recently dropped & the indicator came on that says "low oil pressure, turn engine off". Of course this got me very nervous and I shut the engine off & checked my oil level, which was fine. Brought it to my mechanic & he hooked it up to check the pressure and everything was fine. He replaced the Oil pressure switch but that didnt help. Hes thinking it might be an electrical issue.

Also, the oil gauge resets each start-up & the pressure drops after the engine has been running for about 10mins. Also had the pleasure of seeing the "service stabiltrack, tracking control needs serviced" after all this oil pressure issues......ANY IDEAS? THANKS

I just talked to a shop & he told me 9/10 times the AFM screen just below the oil pressure sending unit is clogged/dirty and is causing this issue. Im going to replace it this week & hopefully that is the issue. If not, then I guess I will see if an oil change does anything

Can you get the mechanic to install a T or Y fitting on the oil pressure port, so ypu can have the stock oil pressure sensor, and his mechanical gauge installed at the same time, then let the truck run until the warning comes on again. This way you will know for sure if it is electrical or not.

Is the truck still under powertrain warranty?

Replaced the AFM screen just below the oil pressure sending unit & everything is back to normal. Have driven for 2 days with no issues with the oil pressure gauge. I am very shocked that this little screen for under $5 was causing problems, but I am very pleased that's all it was. Wish I would have taken pictures of the old and new screen because the old one was very dirty/clogged.

Out of curiosity what kind of oil and filter do you use? Also how often do you change your oil? And have you been doing any towing?

It is a 5.3L V8 and I use Mobil1 5W-30 and also Mobil1 filter. I change my oil usually every 5,000 miles; it just depends on how much fun I've been having; I tow a boat up to Canada with a quad in the bed and also tow some sleds in the winter. I live in Indiana, so it is a haul up to our lake house in Canada and I put a lot of miles on the truck.

Part of job that the oil does is to suspend dirt in the oil and carry it to the filter(by way of dumping into oil pan, to be picked up by the pump.

To me, if a filter gets plugged up, that means it is working. I think the oil should be filtered before it hits the pump.
