Best HID Lights

So one of my PIAA headlight bulbs went out the other day. when i got them i told the wife when they go out im getting HIDs. I have been looking at them for a while now and came to a question

What is a good company besides ebay crap?

I was looking at Retro-Solutions Digital kits and The Retrofit Source Morimoto Elight kits and can't decide what one to get.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Morimoto from retrofit source are were i get my HID kits. Very good quality.

I suggest you check this sight out and get a quality set of projectors from him. He does a great job and its very quick and he is very well known in the GM community. http://www.fastheadlights.com/default.asp

Just make sure to get some kind of projector headlight set up whatever you decide to go with. Don't be like all the other assholes with HID in their stock halogen housings blinding everyone on the road.

I've had morimoto 5000k and currently have morimoto 4300k. 5000k has a very slight blue tint and gives off a cool white light. 4300k is oem color for most HID and gives off a warm white light with no blue and also has the most lumen output. The higher up in Kelvin you go past 4300K, the less actual light is produced.

I get all mine from DDM tuning. They are $30 a set and pretty good quality for the price and comes with a warranty too. Been buying sets from them for three years now and no problems!

I have put DDM's in my Impala, 2006 GMC, 2010 GMC, 2008 Raptor 700, and I know a few other folks that have run DDM's in various applications. No problems and work great. I generally get replacement bulbs for about $13 from eBay whenever I may need to replace mine. I usually never have to replace bulbs unless I break something or want to go with a different color. I also have a 55w Spencers kit that I am running in my Morimoto mini H1 projector retrofit setup with the Morimoto H1 bulbs. My 55w kit has never run cheapo bulbs very well but ever since I put these Morimoto bulbs together with my Spencer kit it makes it whole again. I would say for starters which is where you are, a DDM kit would do you just fine. When you get into serious business like retrofitting projectors and stuff then spend a little extra cash and put a nice 55w kit in there. Either way DDM has outperformed every expectation I had especially for the 50 or so dollars it costs for a kit.

If you decide to just put HID bulbs in a stock housing, do all the other drivers on the road a favor, and just put them in the high beams ONLY- The bulbs are dimensionally different from halogen bulbs, and can't be focused properly. If you have them in the low beams, you will be glaring and blinding everybody- at least in the high beams, you can dim them when there are on-coming cars. They do emit more light at less power draw than the incandesant bulbs, and have less heat, too.

+1 on DDM. Have had them in my Burb for 6 months - working just as advertised. 100% satisfied.

Grabbed some LED bulbs off eBay so my fogs would match the color of the HIDs.

I got 55 6000k ddm's in my lows and fogs. If you put them in your stock housing, make sure to aim them down, ever since i adjusted my headlights down i've not gotten flashed once.

think i am going with the elite kit for now and the projectors later(wife is the boss). when i get the projectors later do i just need them, new bulbs and a new harness?

i plan to aim them down but when i drive it is 4am on back roads with only deer and other critters

When you say you're getting projectors down the road are you getting housings that have projectors already installed in them? (I don't know if they are available) Or are you just getting the projector units to put into your stock housings? If the latter, there will likely be a bit of work involved. Go with retrofitsource if you go the second route. I retrofitted projectors in the housings on my 2001 Regal. Although a lot of work and patience, they came out very nice. The cut off is distinct and has a nice color match to it. Try to not go higher than 4500K on the color of the HIDs. DDM's HID quality has plummeted in recent years. I've had better luck with ebay kits.
