Homelink - Without a "Learn" button

trying to program my homelink with a private electric gate that does NOT have a learn button. Has anyone experienced this? I tried to program the homelink button just with the remote control that came with the gate... didn't work.

Sometimes its a little tricky to get it to take but it should be able to learn code from just your remote. Also did you look at your owners manual ?. It mentions how to program a gate opener if first method doesn't work. I've got mine working on three different type door openers, an older one, a little newer one with the rolling codes, and the latest type with the new frequency. One thing I find handy is to download your owners manual and keep a copy on your computer.
