2013 Avalanche tailgate assist possible?

My wife's 2013 Avalanche is an awesome truck ... it's the last year of the Avalanche, and she ordered it with everything... great truck, and she loves it. (As do I...) I don't understand why GM didn't put a tailgate assist on this vehicle! I've checked online, and asked trick trucks, and it seems no one has made an aftermarket bit to fix this oversight.

 

Anyone have any resources I may not have considered, or a do it yourself solution?

According to this site, the Dee Zee DZ43101 Tailgate Assist works on the Avalanche, even though it is not listed to fit it.
