Computer Software Updates

These may be silly questions to most, but unfortunately, I'm less mechanically inclined than a chimp with a wrench!

 

1) How are software updates and patches delivered to the various computers on these new vehicles?

 

2) If not automatically updated similar to the computers most of us use daily, is there something the consumer should be doing to process updates as they arise?

 

I've read some stuff regarding mylink and I know I am having the same issues. I am guessing I don't have the latest software, but didn't know how the whole process worked to obtain it.

No over the air updates available for our trucks or the radios. As I understand it, you will just need to call you service department every now and then and ask if there are any updates available.

if a computer update becomes available. You have to go to the dealer and have them update it.

From what I have seen, GM doesn't push an update out and request owners to update unless an owner is experiencing an issue that has been found and an update is in place to resolve it.

Anyone know of a site you can go to and view the available updates?
