20" factory wheel mileage question

I am wondering if anyone has noticed a difference in their mileage running 17" factory wheel with stock tires vs 20" factory wheel with stock tires. Anyone ever weighed wheel tire combo? Thanks

It depends on tires. I went from stock 16's with all terrains to replica 20's with an all season tread and gained about 1.5 mpgs. Rolling resistance and tire weight and size will play a huge part in economy. The 20's are not light by any means but the wheel should not be the only thing to consider

the factory steel wheels with the holes and a set of Michelin LTX AT 2 's weigh in at 75 lbs per wheel / tire and the factory 20's that are polished with Michelin LTX tires is in the mid 80's per wheel / tire

I'm not sure if this will help or just confuse the issue:

 

I bought my 2006 GMC Sierra 4x4 SLT XCab, 5.3, with 25,000 miles on it, factory 20" wheels with OEM Goodyear tires. The three odometers had all the same readings, meaning the trip "A" and trip "B" had never been reset from original. The MPG had never been reset and the average was 15.3. I reset it and right away started getting around 17.5 MPG. The difference is obviously in the driving technique.

 

I replaced those wheels because #1 I hated the look, and #2 they were leaking air due to corrosion and chrome flaking at the bead seal surface. I put on some 17" Denali take-offs I got for cheap, and Les Schwab Toyo Open Country tires. Since then I have been real steady at 16.3 MPG, I'm at 128,000 miles on my second set of Open Countries.

 

There are so many things that cause MPG to vary that it is real hard to get good reliable data that will be true for YOU.
