I have a 2010 silverado with the 4.8 engine flex fuel. Im having problems with the instrument cluster. My cluster lights tend to turn off complety only leaving the mileage and the gear positions lighted up with the normal green color. This has happened at different times and already occured at night leaving me clueless on how fast i was going because everything went pitch black. My question is do i need to buy a new instrument cluster or is there an electrical short from my fuse box that i need to adress because the truck has no codes what so ever.

If it is intermittent you can be fairly sure it is not a fuse. Fuses tend follow the good/no-good pattern. You can try adjusting the dash light dimmer control once the lights go out and see if the helps. Just so we are clear, some times the lights work at night, and some times they do not work at night.

Since it effects all the dash lights, that make it look like it is a common item to all bulbs in the cluster. This can be the dash light wire at the socket where it is attached to cluster, or a break inside the insulation that you cannot actually see, but you should be able to tell by pulling the wire to see if it appears to stretch.

I suggest that once it is doing it, get a helper to watch the dash lights while you crawl around under the dash pushing and pulling the harness looking for changes in the dash lights.
