I think that most states have a law about white lights on the back of a vehicle. With the exception of a low wattage plate light. Just like red lights on the front of a vehicle with the exception of emergency lighting.

You are correct in that, but many vehicles are used off of public roads (maybe not all the time, but for me, enough to warrant wanting to modify this feature).

It's nice too have on when the kids are in the box coming across the fields at dusk.

I've been looking into a fix for this too. When your pulling a trailer or if you have a bed load of stuff at night, it's nice to be able to flick the lights and check it without stopping.

It's locked out the the BCM, same as the last trucks. To bypass this you'll likely need to run new, dedicated wiring unless someone out there has the means and knowledge to re-flash the BCM.
