Cant get out of park - Steering Column all the way up

Got to work the other day, and when I got out I put my steering column all the way up. Steer wheel was hitting my phone in pocket. Went back out to go to lunch, started the truck, put foot on brake, and I couldn't get the truck out of park??? Now what? Then I remembered I put the steering column all the way up. So I moved it 1 notch down and now I can move out of park. Anyone has this issue? I couldn't find anything in the manual about this??

Thought maybe this was on purpose, but since not in manual I don't think it is. Give it a try on your Silverado. I have a 2014 1500.

Was it hitting your key? This is a known "issue" that if the wheel is tilted all the way up it will hit the key when trying to shift out of park.

Steering wheel lock maybe?

if the wheel is in a bind it can keep the lock from turning, like up against a curb. pulling the wheel a little to the right or left will take the pressure off the locking pawl.

fondupot, yep that's the issue, I would have never thought of that. For everyone else thanks but the car is running and wheel turns freely. Cant lock the steering if its running or least I hope not....

You would think they make the shifter go around the key. Well time for Chevy to go to a knob like Chrysler, but that's one thing I didn't like about Chrysler trucks..
