Electric Fan Install Question

I am thinking about installing a flex-a-lite 295 in my GMC.  I was looking at the install instructions online and they said:

Locate the two wires that go into the a/c compressor, and determine which wire activates the clutch compressor when

the AC is turned on, this is your signal wire. If the signal wire sends a positive signal, put a splice tap on the

positive signal wire with the green wire running back to the VSC, and connect to terminal #8. If the signal

wire is negative, then connect to terminal #7. Do not connect both wires to VSC. Only one wire is used to

signal the VSC.

Question is how do I figure out which wire is the signal wire and how do I figure out if it is - or +?  I am assuming I will need a multimeter for this.

It's easy....get a 12V light (continuity tester for $2 @ auto parts).  Ground the clip to the - on your battery and then probe the potentially hot 12V leg.  If the light lights up?  You got it...if not?  Switch the clip on your test light to the + battery terminal...that way when your probe hits a ground leg it will light the light.
