Changing tranny fluid in 6l80e

I want to change the fluid and filter in the tranny on my 2010 Silverado, who's done it already and what type of fluid did you use?

eg. synthetic tranny oil, regular tranny oil or the stuff from a GM dealer?

What about the filter, anything there I should be looking for?

buy dextron v1 from a store and buy the filter from the dealer ,,,,,you should have a reusable gasket ,,,im not sure ,,,they were in the earlier 4l80s ,,,

Dex VI is a synthetic blend, your gasket on your 6l80e is reusable. Any Dex VI licensed product will be fine, i use Redline D6 personally. D6 is full synthetic

You will have to either to loosen the y-pipe at the manifolds or unbolt the transmission from the cross member and lift it up to remove the pan completely. Either or it doesn't matter, crossmember route is a little easier.

Take the pan off and clean it, replace the filter. The filter just pulls down, try wiggling it. A little metal dust in the pan is fine, especially if this is the first service.

Torque pan bolts to 80 IN LBS.

Should loose about 5-6 qts. Buy 6 to be safe. Put 5 back in and take it for a good drive to get it up to temp, not just engine temp. I'm talking 20 - 30 minute drive. Top it off to the cross hatch with the 6th quart.

Thanks DaveH71 for the great info and step by step instructions. Will be doing this weekend if every thing works out.
