Sunroof....unsuccessfully repaired 3 times now, wont close above 70 mp

My main question, does anybody else have a problem with their sunroof closing about 2/3's of the way then opening back up? it only does it above 70 MPH. How does everybody else's work?

 

Back Story for those who are bored:

 

I've been lurking for a while. Finally decided to post, I wish it was a different topic. About a week after buying my '14 SLT crew cab All Terrain 6.2l a clip broke on the sunroof, jamming it open. I brought it to the dealer they got it to close and ordered a new clip. While waiting for my parts to come in I noticed my sunroof stuck up way more on one side than the other side and above 65 mph it would lift up letting in wind and rain! I called and they said it's normal because the clip is broken. Two weeks later after no call, I call them and they say oh yeah it's in, they can fix it later in the week.

 

I bring it in for the fix and it takes longer because the entire sunroof assembly was bent, so they replaced the whole thing instead. I pick it up, and my headliner is hanging down(not all clipped in), sunglasses holder isn't clipped in all the way and my steering wheel has a gouge in it! Oh yeah, and the sunroof still sticks up 1/4" above the roofline on one side!

 

I bring it back again a week later for the sunroof sticking up too far and for them to replace my damaged steering wheel. They fix(temporarily) the sunroof and replace the steering wheel.

 

The following day I realize my horn requires far too much pressure to beep and my sunroof is leaking water into my car!

 

A different dealer fixes the leak and says the horn is fine. It's not.

 

Now, the sunroof won't close above 70. UGH!

It looks like they treated the symptoms, not the cause with your sunroof problem. The clip broke because the sunroof was misaligned. Replacing the clip was only a part of the repair. What they did was equivalent to replacing a badly worn tire on a vehicle that's way out of alignment without correcting the alignment first.

 

I am sure that your new sunroof is installed incorrectly again. I have had many factory installed power sunroofs in vairous vehicles and never had any problems with them.

Mrs. Cusser's 2005 GMC Yukon XL Denali. Sunroof opened by itself twice while she was driving, compounding the issue of the sunroof sometimes not wanting to close (no sound of struggling, no whirring). Our mechanic said this was specialized, take to dealer, so we did.

 

Dealer called and said it needed new switch, would be like $200. I asked if this was a fix or a guess, they said a fix, so I asked for them to save the old switchfor me.

 

When we went to pick up, $50 was tacked on for "hazardous materials disposal". I asked what was disposed of, and they took that charge off. They also said I needed a new lower radiator hose, funny because I had replaced that 1 month earlier when I replaced the water pump; still had the "Gates" sticker and the aftermarket hose clamp readily visible too.

 

Anyway, 1.5 days later sunroof again would not close. Anyway, over a period of a few months Yukon was back there several times (no additional charge) and service department finally threw in the towel and stated they "had no idea" how to fix it. I asked for a refund, and they balked. But I had posted on an Internet board asking if anyone else ever had this issue, and a GM rep picked up the thread and PM'd me, finally facilitated a refund (so i didn't have to fight through my credit card company). But what a hassle.

 

The sunroof? I took out the fuse, can't risk the sunroof being stuck open if it rains, will ruin the interior.

Just had my sunroof repaired for the 4th time. Three times for the rubber slider guides, finally replaced via a service notice and new part.

 

Same with the "won't close at 70mph issue." They're now replacing the motor, which wasn't powerful enough to close it over 65 mph. Also a service notice, although they didn't proactively let anyone know.

 

This is an expensive truck, and it's spent more time in the shop in the 18 months I've owned it, than any other new car in my life. A/C seized up, serpentine belt had to be replaced, the 4 sunroof repairs, voice command problems, nav problems. Not a happy camper.

I am glad I opted out of a sunroof, one more thing that could go wrong and these are no exception.

Yes my 2014 did that, I figured out that it took too much pressure to push down the windscreen in front of the glass and it over powered the motor and it then reverses. Normal operation unfortunately as it is a safety feature like a garage door. I believe it is a bad design on the windscreen that causes it not to close at 70.
