I just ordered http://www.gmbackupcams.com/collections/frontpage/products/2014-silverado-sierra-oem-rear-vision-system this camera. Im waiting on it should be here any day now. Im just having a problem finding someone to install it my gm dealer says they dont do stuff like that. But Ive read a few treads how people dont like the 2014 stock backup cam. I hope this is better im thinking about installing a switch to also be able to manual be able to turn it on and off to salve the problem with unloading the boat and still be able to make sure it came off safe.

While yes most cars didn't have them until recently, I like mine.

I'm not sure why all the complaints with a backup camera resolution? It's there to help you backing up and for avoiding obstacles when backing up, both of which it does. I can still perfectly see any and all cars/lamp posts/people etc when backing in, sure you aren't going to watch HD movies on it but it definitely does it's job.

This isn't an attack on you OP, please don't take it as such, just a general observation

Actually I backed up yesterday to attach my camper for the first time using the backup camera, lining up my ball with the trailer and I was not impressed with the resolution. It was hard to make out the difference between the two dark objects...not at all what I expected or hoped for. It is great for avoidances, but would love a higher resolution for details and color. I had a cheap aftermarket on my last truck and IMO it was better than the OEM resolution.

I put it in my 2011. You can install it yourself. Takes about 20-40 minutes.

I didn't even do that much. Back up very slowly when you feel the bump you are there. Or get the wife or friend to keep an eye for you.

When hooking up my trailer I always adjusted the height of the tongue to the height of the hitch and when I felt a bump I was on it. No damage to the truck or trailer because the impact was on the hitch ball. Then Get out, raise the tongue and back up a few more inches.

My new truck has the camera as part of the other crap that I wanted installed. I have not even looked at it. If I need a camera to back up, I will stop driving a truck. I do not trust technology that much.

Hey OP,

Try asking a stereo install shop or something. They tear trim panels off and run wires in vehicles ALL the time. I bet you could get them to take care of that for you.

Not Best Buy or something. Like a real stereo install place.
