Same subject different rip off. Twenty fife years ago we started a second company in our same office as the first one. We had a land clearing Biz and started a repair and sales Biz. Long story made short, tax time comes we get double tax for same office equipment because we had two signs up.

Yikes. Hope you were able to resolve that one!

A lot of intersections around here have some sort of camera up, but I have no idea what they are for. They do not seem to be deterring the drivers that run the red lights 10 seconds after the opposite traffic get the green...

^^^^^^ What you're calling cameras are actually there for detecting traffic so the lights can adjust for traffic patterns. They are not for taking pics or are they able of taking pics.

Actually they do take digital video but most are not able to store the video for more than a few minutes as they continually overwrite the available memory. Traffic detection systems are not used for enforcement and normally the cameras do not have the resolution for getting tag numbers or faces. The cameras use digital video and focus points to detect traffic at the intersection and approaching the intersection. Little focus boxes move around the image as traffic moves into and out of a specific area. It kinda looks like the auto focus box on your DLSR camera. Not only can they detect vehicles at the intersection but also several spaces back and traffic continuing to move into those areas. The computer then analyzes everything to determine the light timing and sequence. You can find videos of them in action online.

Traffic detection cams are used more now because they are cheaper to install and maintain than the old cut pavement pads we used to see. Plus, the guy on a motorcycle doesn't have to jump up and down to get the signal to recognize he's in the left turn lane.

Traffic enforcement cameras are a whole different system and most states still don't allow them. Those that do usually warn you, as you approach the intersection, that video enforcement is in place.

Ah, I see. I've worked with machine vision systems for years, wondered why or if they were still using prox sensing in the pavement. Guess they have moved up! Cool.
