I am in the market for a new truck. An option for me would be the s10 zr2. I love the look of these. And they don't cost a fortune. Only one issue - I do not have kids right now but plan on having 1 or 2 in the near future. I know you cannot put a car seat in the back of these ext cabs but I just had a few questions.

1. Is it safe/legal to put a rear facing or normal car seat in the front seat with the air bag turned off?

2. How old does a child have to be before they can safely sit in the jump seat in the back?

If I choose to get one of these trucks, it will not be my primary vehicle. I would get a car to haul wife and kids around, probably a diesel jetta or something that gets awesome mpg like that. The zr2 would be for work, hauling, fun, etc. I just want to know if I do get one and on rare occasions had to transport a child that it would be possible. Anybody ever run into this scenario? Is there anyway to modify a s10 to make it more child friendly. Just wondering, thanks.

You'll need to check state laws for the age/height/weight restrictions for when they need to be in a certain type of seat. That said, I'd never put a kid in the back seat, it's lap belt only.

Love the trucks, but not a fan of the back seat as stated. Check local child seat laws to be sure. As stated, I wouldn't put my kid in the back.
