Ok long story short , at the barn and was replacing my TB gasket , lost a nut that holds TB on . No goin to try and run it with 2 nuts mounting it . No ride out to match one up so I have to have fiancé bring one on her way later today.

What size nut shoul she get , since she isn't able to take one and match it up . Thanks

If there is a pan of anti-freeze or oil on the floor nearby, the nut is in there.

Generally nuts follow a standard as to what wrench fits what thread size. For example, 13mm wrench, 8mm thread, 14mm is 10mm, 10mm wrench is 6mm

Same for standard sizes, 1/2 wrench is 5/16 thread, 7/16 is 1/4 in thread, 9/16 wrench is 3/8 thread.

The slickest trick? Take your metric wrenches, and see what open end size wrench fits over the thread with little to no clearance? Guess what that tells you?

You next problem is pitch of thread, Generally though, engine fasteners are coarse threaded. Worse comes to worse, damn the expense and have her pick up both pitches.

You do know that as soon as you get that replacement nut, the missing nut will stand up and start making fun of you don't you?

Thanks , she stopped and grabbed a M6 nut and it fit perfect .

Doug Scott , never think about the easy ways you suggest when on the spot . Will remember that next time . Thanks

Glad that it worked out for you. I have dropped a few of those nuts myself. What I do now is lay a shop cloth underneath the throttle body. That way if you drop one it doesn't bounce into the abyss or disappear from the face of the earth.

Years ago I picked up a few magnetic dishes. They stick to anything ferrous, and anything ferrous sticks to them, even upside down.. Also found that placing a pan of the nastiest oil or antifreeze under the car will also suck anything dropped right into the pan.

Was on a concrete floor in my horse barn , the nut fell on water pump then slid off in the space behind it to never be seen again until I replace water pump one day
