Mine is not quite as quiet as his, but not as noisy as a diesel. Lol. Sorry, couldn't help myself. :)

I would call it annoying if your outside the vehicle.

It was very annoying when outside the vehicle-the "tick" that is.

And as mentioned earlier, my co-worker was walking by my Sierra on our pit at work yesterday. I had just finished changing the engine oil/filter and was checking the transmission fluid level and he said "is that thing even running?". He was really surprised.

I can't say if that coil and ignition wire was the fault but I am saying it's sure running like a dream now.

And a big thanks to Mainline GM in Watrous Saskatchewan. I can't say enough good things about those people and the outstanding service I received!

Unfortunately from my experience the techs now a days aren't able to troubleshoot, diagnose, and isolate a fault without a fault code or a visual mechanical failure.

This is great for the manufactures because now everything is normal until the vehicle diagnosis itself and reports a failure. What the dealers don't or are unwilling to understand is that the on-board diagnostics will not flag every possible faulty component.

As for the direct injection "ticking", this is great for the dealerships and the manufacture because now every time a vehicle comes in with a tick or knock in the engine compartment it is "normal" unless it is accompanied by a fault code.

I'm with you on all of the above. I figure sometimes it ends up being a numerous "parts change" situation till the problem goes away as well. In my case, it didn't take them long to figure out the problem. There was a code, but there never was a CEL on at any time.
