That's so funny. Masking tape to try to fix a 70-95,000.00 vehicle.

At this point. I have left several for the service manager, customer relationship manager at the dealership. No call backs. Bought the Escalade 12/18. Went back to the dealership within a few days. Been there ever since. And as a bonus have already made the first payment. As a bonus I'm still paying insurance on the YUKON ANDY Escalade. Oh how I miss my Toyota these days.

The best quote of the week was from the GM field engineer. "Yours is not nearly as bad as others I've driven". LoL. Serious GM is asking for what we were SOLD to much to ask for????

The MyLink and IntelliLink manuals identify the fact that ANC will be present, if equipped. This would suggest ANC is not a standard feature in all GM Fullsize SUVs. “This may answer the question why some folks are experiencing issues associated with this thread and some like myself are not”. If you can acquire the dealer printout on your vehicle, you will know based on the acronyms (see below) if your vehicle was equipped with ANC. Additionally, if you have the capability to disable ANC, that pretty much seals the deal. My truck does not have the capability to disable ANC, which would suggest I don’t have it.

But, I do believe the GMC R&D folks are an “inch” ahead of the Chevy and Cadillac R&D personnel. GMC gives you the possibility of addressing ANC by exposing the mics (my assessment), and Chevy and Cadillac does not (I believe I read somewhere that the Cadillac mics are also covered under the headliner, Escalade owner can validate)

Acronyms: Bose Premium Enhanced Audio Speaker System (UQA) / Premium Speaker System w/Surround Amp (UQS) / Premium Audio w/Surround Amp & Audio Iophile Speaker System (UQH) / Active Noise Control System (NKC)

The GM Fullsize SUV Platforms should have either the UQA, UQS, or UQH Speaker Systems. The key will be with or without NKC.

For those affected by ANC, the Mylink/IntelliLink manuals suggest ANC is “most effective” at lower radio volume settings. So until or if GM issues a fix, tune the radio to your favorite sounds and pump of the volume, ANC will be “least effective”. It will piss-off the neighbors but it might make you feel better. (basing my assessment strictly on written content)

20sierra14 – in reference to post #480, you get an “A” for intent and purpose, got it. However, you get an “D” for effort. You probably could have done a better tape job on your 70K truck.

The pictures look like you placed the cotton and tape over the mics. Here are a few questions for you; 1) Does the mic cover come off? If so, is there a stock number? 2) If the cover comes off, is there space between the mic components and cover? 3) Does the mic come out of the housing? 4) If the mic comes out of the housing, is there a connection? 5) If the mic cover comes off, have you tried driving with it off?

I would try this, but my mics are covered under the headliner. Also the mic covered over the drivers’ sunvisor is for Bluetooth, covering this one may complicate vehicle voice commands in addition to muffling your external transmission.

As I mentioned, it only took me (or I only spent) 10 minutes testing this idea... I'm also trying to prove the point that it's what I've had to do to be comfortable in our truck!

I'll try to answer your questions even though you don't like my implementation -- 1) What I assume you are referring to cover, I'm using the term grille. There is no part number on this piece (other than "ABS" in the pic), but I pictured the inside of the grille below..

Then here's the picture of the actual mic piece recessed behind the roof liner:

--This microphone piece does not come out. I'm pretty sure it doubles as the mounting point for the plastic grille as well.. I tried to feel around behind the roof liner and I can tell the whole plastic microphone piece is much large than the hole cut out of the roof liner -- Meaning, I can't really get behind it to essentially unplug the mic.

Here's how I used the cotton balls.. No judging please

I also ripped apart half of a cotton ball and crammed it in the foam o-ring in the 2nd picture and then placed two full cotton balls over the entire opening.

From the chart I stole (Post #484), I could find the amp and just clip those wires to turn the mics off -- not really sure I want to do that yet, but it would be an easy fix if I did!! Lastly, I removed the cotton balls that covered the bluetooth mic

Both of mine have active noise control. Neither have a menu option to disable active noise control.

The Yukon Denali lists Active Noise Control as a standard feature. It is not listed as standard or as an option for the SLE/SLT versions (which is no indication of what is actually in the SLE or SLT).

20sierra14 - I knew you didn't have thin skin, but we are on the same side, good job. As I was working through options based on the "Enhanced Sound" thread, I came up three. None involved the use of cotton, but it's a good idea as long as it doesn't present a safety hazard. I will PM you later because I have to go into detail about what I was going to do. With you having the ability to remove the grill, one of the options will allow you to perform the service you want without noticing anything from the passenger cabin. If you decide to try the option, you can post details and pics.

In which manual? Where did you find that? All I can find in the manual that came with the vehicle is that the AudioPilot can be turned off in the setting menu. Can't find any detailed manual online other then the main manual (which excludes the Infotainment system).

20sierra14 - reasons for the questions;

1) Does the mic cover come off? If so, is there a stock number? If the "grille" did not come off, the result would have looked "somewhat" like your finished product (bit cleaner). A stock or part number would allow a replacement to be purchased if the grille were to be damaged with testing

2) If the cover comes off, is there space between the mic components and cover? What is done to the grille needed space, flushed with the mic would have been tight. Now seeing the inside of the mic, cotton is in the mix if it doesn't present an electrical hazard with the mic

3) Does the mic come out of the housing? 4) If the mic comes out of the housing, is there a connection? These two are together, it would have been the perfect scenario to just disconnect the mic, at the mic. Drooling with this one

5) If the mic cover comes off, have you tried driving with it off? Take of all the tape, cotton, and grille and see what ANC does

I too have the Intellilink Manual...I did a full text search on several terms and did find where the Bose AudioPilot noise "compensation" feature can be turned off but nothing saying the Active Noise Control can be turned off. I am also at a disadvantage since neither of my Denali's exhibited this problem. Wrench...to get that manual, call customer (no)service and they will email the PDF of the manual to you.)

Hi All,

Well, after driving my new (second one) 2015i Denali for a few weeks (but never on the highway), I noticed the familiar sound and feel of my first one...So disappointed. Anyway, the truck is in the shop today and the tech is disabling the ANC. He thought I was nuts, but I told him about some of you on this thread and I would rather him do than me. Will keep you all posted. Again.

Per jasondenali15 - "the tech is disabling ANC", this was also an option. Took dealerships months to come around to doing this. 20sierra14, I'll put the PM on hold based on jasonali15 update.

20sierra14 btw - I tried to save on some words of explaining what you could do with the grille by attempting to purchase the grille from my local GMC dealer (another reason for requesting if there was a part number), but the dealer needed a VIN. Didn't happen, I have a Tahoe. It would have been easier for me to work with the grille, working with a template and other materials would have been easier versus explaining what to do.

Either way, just standby and wait for Jason's next post. I believe disabling ANC is extremely sound if it works

Disabling one of the three now, he's not sure if it will turn the other ones off too. Also, he doesn't think a warning message will appear. Thanks for doing so much leg work, guys. Hope to know something today...

jasondenali15 - the way you say that is suspect "one of three". There are three mics in these vehicles. Three mics, one of three. I did some research and what I found was another name for the mics, ANC. Likely correllation, especially since I believe the mics to be the head of the snake.

Post 502, "disconnect the mic, at the mic" is what I believe the tech to be doing. We'll see if that's the case and if it works, cause if it does a lot more folks will be drooling. I am optimistic and logical.

Spoke to the tech this evening and he said he was able to disable the ANC without getting any warning alerts on the dash/screen. The truck was not ready for pick up today so I will let you guys know if it feels or sounds any different tomorrow afternoon. I sure hope so. I really can't believe I'm dealing with this nonsense again. $79k...

Unrelated, to this thread, but related if you own a 2015, there is a new software download available for the intelilink...my iPod never works right in my truck. Not sure what updates are on it, just sharing updates.

Jasondenali15 – in early posts on this thread, you and a few others sadly had to deal with an unknown problem with unknown fixes. Now, some 510 posts later, the train has already left the station, the dots have been connected; just needed the dealer to get on board. Additional research connected NKC with ANC, the Electrical Plan (separate thread) connected NKC to the mics. If a person goes to the electrical plan and lookup NKC (GM acronym for active noise cancellation (ANC)), what they will find is ANC and mics are one in the same. Or how Bose explains the beginning process of ANC, “a tiny microphone inside the vehicle continuously monitoring the overall sound level in the cabin, sensing both music and noise”. Bottom line, silence the mic.

If you report “negative results”, we are still on to ANC and will proceed with my last option (if someone wants to try it, never asked 20sierra14). We do know, what 20sierra14 did with his truck (mitigation measure to the buffeting) ended with “positive results”.

We will be anxiously awaiting your next post.
