Don't think owners and dealers are settled on the fact that the issue is primarily the rear end. Info on this thread suggest road testing from 18 - 22 tires sizes ended with similar results, although tire size may be a piece of the puzzle. I have 20's and don't experience the issue.

Wanted give an update. I have test drove the latest Cadillac, Suburban and Yukon. All with the intermin model build, all have the same noise. It sounds like a window is down. Some are worse than others, but they all have it. We almost bought a new Yukon XL last weekend, but we backed out. The vehicle is so nice and fits my family of 6, but I just can't get past the feeling in my head. Crazy that we would even consider doing it all over again, but the truck is perfect, other than the pressure. As of now, they have not fixed the issue, or have a fix in the works. Does anyone have an inside track on when the 2016's come out?

I believe the order date begins in August and delivered date is Oct looks like their will be some minor changes

Is the pressure different than the shaking and vibration, or does it all occur together? One individual said that you could actually see the headliner shaking? Is this the same issue you are experiencing on your test drives?

It seems that in mine, there is some vibration when the pressure/buffeting (aka drone) is present.

I have driven all versions - Chev, GMC, short (Tahoe, Yukon), long (suburban, Yukon XL), with and without ANC and Magnetic Ride, 18", 20", 22" - they all did it. Slightly varying severity, but they all did it.

I agree that this new generation is significantly stiffer in an attempt to provide a more "European" type ride. Unfortunately, GM screwed it up. They made it stiffer but missed the "ride quality" portion. I have driven my share of BMW's and Audi's, and not one of them displayed the harshness of these new gen SUVs. They are stiff and handle great, but the road harshness has been somehow isolated and there are no ridiculous "buffeting" sounds or any other pain in the ass noises. GM obviously does not have the technical wherewithal to build a vehicle at the caliber of BMW or Mercedes, so they should have stuck with what they know - sofa on wheels! This generation of vehicles will be the learning studio for GM and maybe the next generation will actually be correct. But for now, they suck.

And no amount of telling the owners that their expectations are mis-aligned will change that. You may love yours. That's great. Everyone has a different threshold of when a sound becomes a noise. Yours is obviously higher than others. But make no mistake - this is a real issue, and has been observed by dealers and factory engineers. Most of us are suffering with it out of lack of any option. I also guess that GM knows exactly what the problem is. It's likely something major, like the entire stiffness of the vehicle results in a resonance of a major component and generates the buffeting. And there is no fix for it, short of a complete redesign. And all the farting around with road force balancing and rear end exchanges and blah blah is a band aide diversionary tactics to wear out the owner into submission, or frustrate them into going away (via buy back, lemon law, BBB, simply trading it off at another brand). And for those that don't notice it, they can keep on selling new units and posting record profits.

Order banks for the 2016's opened months ago. The 2016's began production this past week on 7/20/15. You are correct about the minor changes. Two new exterior colors, Apple carplay support are a couple of the notable changes.

To paraphrase the "marketingeneers": "All models – 2WD and 4WD – feature an updated coil-over-shock independent front suspension design, with forged aluminum upper control arms and cast-aluminum lower control arms. They are 12 pounds lighter per side and 10 percent stiffer than comparable steel components."

If you want to know what forged aluminum components in the suspension will deliver in terms of ride quality go drive an Infiniti G35, Porsche, or most European vehicles. They are stiff and transmit vibrations like HELL. People that used to ride in my 2007 G35 would ask, "Dude? What the heck is wrong with your car??". My reply, "Absolutely nothing. Welcome to all-aluminum suspension components". Aluminum is going to transmit up vibrations of running over a nat's ass into the frame, I don't care what kind of "magnetic ride wizardry" you try to put between the attachment and the strut mount, you are going to get a ride that is more than 10% stiffer in your perception vs the previous generation. Based on the red 2015 Suburban that I saw rolled over on the freeway that people walked away from...hey, I like stiffness!

Agreed that a solution(s) may (potentially/eventually) be forthcoming for those that are disappointed in the ride. With production numbers as they are there can't be that many making noise.

I normally don't like to pile on a thread like this but I just have to share my experience in my possible new truck search.

I have been kicking around the idea of getting rid of the truck and getting a Tahoe/Yukon for some time now. In my research for potential problems I have read this thread in pretty much its entirety looking for some pre purchase insight. I figured "how bad can these problems really be"...."maybe guys are just being picky"...."surely the problem isn't that common or pronounced."

After driving a Yukon this weekend with 4 miles on the odometer I will definitely not be taking a chance on one of these units. The buffering and vibe on the highway (seemed to be most pronounced around 64-68 mph) was TERRIBLE. I feel for you guys that have this problem and can without question know it would make me ill to drive more than ten minutes at that speed. Salesman said he didn't notice at first and asked me to jump back on the highway to point it out so I did. Sure enough once at that sweet spot in speed he without a doubt knew there was a problem and agreed something wasn't right. I could see it on his face, "no sale".

Once returning to the dealer the sales manager wanted to talk to me about the possibility of purchasing this unit even after knowing said issue. I politely told him no way...I'm out on this deal. He had all kinds of reasons why the truck buffered like that. The best one he gave me was the wheels locks on the truck caused the issue and that it could be fixed real easy. I smiled and nodded no thank you.

I can't believe GM lets that many units out with such a problem and like I said I genuinely feel for you guys with this issue. I hope they get something figured out for you because this is way too much money for something to drive like that.

***UPDATE***

The replacement flanged arrived on Tuesday, but was the incorrect flange for my vehicle. GM sent another one overnight and the dealer replaced on Wednesday. I received a call from my SM stating all was repaired and he gave me the new picoscope readings which were drastically better than the first readings.

I was on my way on vacation when I received the call, so I did not get a chance to drive the vehicle until today. I am happy to report this flange replacement has fixed my vibration issue at 53 MPH and I do not hear any buffeting at 43 MPH.

GM also will be giving me an extended warranty of misc items from 36K to 100K for my troubles. I have to say, I am happy with the result and with GM's offer.

I will report back if the issues return, but for now, I am happy with the results.

....Now waiting for the V4-V8 exhaust fix to be released in October.......

Test drove one today. That vibration fix also takes care of the buffeting problem correct?

For me, Yes. This has corrected my issue, or at least corrected it to where I can no longer hear or feel the vibration or buffeting......

However, My wife just text me and stated now there is a 'click' in the steering wheel when turning left or right. It does not do it while parked and turning the wheel.......It did not do this before the repair.

I am now at my wits end....will the issues ever stop coming?!?!

Just had mine fixed. Sounds like a problem that carried over from the Acadia. Dealer replaced bearings and seals in steering column and click went away.

I bought a '15 Yukon XL SLT about a month ago. I've had a rattling noise from both the drivers' and passengers' side seat belt housing and I was searching the internet for info if others were having the same problem. Turns out a few do, as well as the 2nd row captains chairs rattle like a 1970's pickup truck when going over medium size bumps in the road. And the pressure buffetting, I thought maybe that was just me but my truck definitely has this problem, though I haven't been able to pinpoint when and why it does it. It feels like one window is open, but then it will go away. And it is not consistent. I do not have a sunroof.

Driving to work this morning with a rattling in my ear and the rear seats rattling over every bump, I was getting very frustrated.

Any luck getting the seat belt rattle fixed? My 2015 Tahoe is at dealer now and they can't seem to find the problem easily although they hear the sound.

I also have my car for a month, the noise in the driver seat belt housing is TERRIBLE more when you drive with the head about the housing!! I'm afraid if dealer tear up the panel is going to be worst….since many components are involve….Someone have it fixed??

I'm new to this site, stumbled upon it after months of frustration with my 2015 Tahoe. Main issue is the creaking/rattling from the dash and the most annoying metal on metal rattle coming from the seat belt housing right at ear level. I've had my Tahoe in the shop now for two weeks. They did replace the steering column which eliminated a bit of the dash noise, but not all of it. Anyone with a similar experience or fix they know of??

    • So I'm in the middle of a DOD AFM delete on my 6.2 L86 Sierra. I had a pick holding the tensioner but after I got the Cam phaser gear off I was cleaning off all the rtv and apparently I didn't have the pick seated far enough in. I bumped it and the tensioner sprang forward.  I think everything is good but I want a second opinion. The top of the tensioner is just a looped piece of plastic that rides in that channel right? There is no spring or anything is there? I got the gear and chain back on and it seems tight and everything looks right. I'm hoping nothing fell out.
    • My 2015 1500 LTZ Silverado suddenly won't go into 4 x 4 low. It will go into 4 x 4 high.
    • Yep, just a quick reference point.    My main point being I’d do a thousand other things before I’d pay 10k for a transmission.    Speaking in ignorance cause I don’t look at these trucks, what is it worth? 20k?
    • I think users are going to want to pick their monitored parameters, which parameters they want to see first.    It should probably start with baseline at a minimum and adjust to learned, but be able to overlay baseline for comparison.   A simple severity level would be able to determine what type of alerting is appropriate or user selectable.    Why not use the OBD port though?   I think a phone connection would be a good idea, push notifications type deal.   Number 1 issue is having data is useless if you don’t know what the data should be under normal conditions.
    • I thought I would use your thread and add to it as I just did my first longer drive with my truck in the last couple of days. I drove from the Grande Prairie area of Alberta down to Edmonton and most of where I drove in the city was the ring road so fairly free flowing but a bit of stop and go as well in the city. Stayed the night and returned home and not too many stops along the way each way but every restart and certainly every cold start sets it back for fuel mileage. Why I say that is I see some people will cherry pick a fuel mileage leg after the vehicle had been warmed up driveline wise before hand and its a forgiving ( easy rolling drive leg for example ) and call that their fuel mileage which can give a false perception of reality. I was not heavily loaded at all but never the less the flip bak cover, rubber bed mat, various tools etc and extra jerry cans of fuel all way up to a few hundred pounds of dead weight so its not an empty truck. The cold inflation tire pressures are set more near the freezing point so once they are warmed up driving I was showing 45 front and over 40 rear and realize high inflation pressures would help a little in fuel mileage but certainly not the ride on our crap sections of highway. The weather was good so was not raining as that can really drag mileage down, in fact I had a bit of a tail wind on average driving home. Most people on here would never have driven on that freeway to visualize it but its got a fair bit of rolling type of landscape with numerous river valleys. For the most part I had it on cruise set to 62 although kicking it off if I caught it in time before it started down shifting and self braking going down the grades. Most of the more substantial grades its shifting into 7th I believe as 8th just doesn't have it. Total distance round trip was 643 miles and my overall average and I did refuel three times in all, figured out to 17.65 miles per US gallon. My best fuel mileage section refuel within all of this figured out to 18.46 and these are all hand calculated figures. I find if anything that the trucks computer can be over optimistic, sometimes its pretty close but other times its stretching it. On paper persay in theory the truck would have just about made it on fumes for that whole drive without refueling once.    Which made me think of the topic thread of the wonder if these trucks could do 20 mpg and that is a good question, certainly would have to be on an easy going flat highway, no head wind, the right temperature, not packing around a bunch of dead weight and puttering along even slower than I was I would suspect and going steady and not stopping to smell the flowers or take a piss !. It probably is possible but not without effort to attain that with the wind resistance and weight of these trucks. Of course on my drive most people are passing me if they have the power as per loaded highway tractors, never mind a lot of speedy vehicles but the speed limit is 68 and most are at or well over that.
