ETA on Navigation is way off

I was just told by someone in factory customer service that it is a known issue and it is being addressed for a future update. Got me. If it was me and I had a programmer on the clock I'd want this fixed by the weekend and I'm quite sure a good programmer could fix something that had known quantities such as miles and speed limits. The labels for the roads have to already be embedded so that leaves the miles to be put in a formula and completed. Any programmers out here? I get things done for me upon occasion and usually know what I can ask for in a program and this doesn't seem like it would break any backs.

The road data is local to the navigation unit, thus closed roads, new roads, down bridges, etc. won't be in the database. There are only a few companies (maybe just NAVTEQ and TOM TOM) that provide vector road data and they make money on those updates, so the cost for the DVD data update disk (which typically will also update the software at the same time) goes to the map vendor. For GM (or anyone else) to provide "free" updates would imply their need to charge more upfront to pay the map vendor over time.

For long trips, determine the key points to travel thru via an Internet mapping website (Bing which uses NAVTEQ and Google has their own map data) as they are generally more current with more advance routing software behind the service. I don't care for MapQuest (which uses TOM TOM data), but just my opinion. From my own experience, in car navigation products do well with local trips (less road data to process) but not so much for those long trips. For newly added roads, need an update to the data.

The core routing software wouldn't be written by any auto company as rather specialized development skills are required and the map vendors already has it written for their road data structure.

I did not expect it to know about the closed road. But I did expect it to re calculate like all the ones in my other cars. There are more ways to get places than the first way it showed.Like turn left at next intersection and so on. Not just telling me to go back. I made it to where I was going so it must have been possible. Real ones will recalculate very quickly after a turn is missed. The GM one is just outdated cheap junk.

Are you sure you have it set to the right "setting"? There are 3 choices: arrival time, time remaining, and distance remaining. If you push on the display it will cycle between the 3 options. Some of you might be confusing the time remaining for arrival time. They look the same, but aren't obviously. So, it might be saying your arrival time is 5:15, not that the trip takes 5 hours and 15 minutes.

Also, if you drive much faster than the speed limits (that it has stored in memory), it will obviously be off. I did a 500 mile round trip this last weekend and it was pretty close. But I drive 5-10 miles over the speed limit. Or the speed limits may have gone up since the nav unit was programmed.

If your supposition was correct that we had the wrong settings then why would the ETA self adjust and then eventually match our arrival time?

I had my truck in for the first service yesterday. I asked them to check if my infotainment software was up to date to see if it would fix my ETA issue. They did perform an update to the software but it did not fix the ETA issue. The only thing that I noticed that it did do was add a bug that will not allow you to dismiss messages on the small display with the button on the steering wheel any longer.

All navigation device I have or had, always show more time than It takes to arrive. Who knows what MPH average they use or how many stops your going to make while on the way. I drive 5 MPH over mostly and always arrive before the destination time stated at the start. But it does self adjust while driving.

This is my specific situation. Google - 211 miles - 3 hours 20 minutes - 63.36 mph average

GMC - 211 miles - 5 hours 5 minutes - 41.53 mph average

Actual - 211 miles 3 hours 15 minutes - 64.92 mph average.

This is why I'm irritated. It is like this for every route I choose.

In addition to the 9100680 Reprogram Transfer Case Module recall, they also completed the 2880168 Bulletin (Preprogram HMI MOdule Radio) as well.
I am happy to say my NAV ETA is right on now for the first time ever AND the radio also responds fairly quickly to commands, where it use to be sluggish, take 1-4 seconds in between commands, switching modes etc.. like so many others have complained.

Also noticed I had XM back (trial? ) for the past week. It finally went away as who needs XM when you have Pandora.

And for those that say the dealer "updated your radio" , what does your service record invoice say? If it doesn't say 2880168 reprogram HMI module, then you didn't get this "bulletin" applied and thus still probably having issues.
Hopefully this info helps someone out there.

Just got my truck back from the dealer today. They worked with GM on the issue today. All software was checked and is all still up to date. GM had them check the 2015 Sierras that they had on the lot. They all still have the same issue. No update on a solution.

I have a 2015 canyon with the same issues. Took it to dealer yesterday, and there s no fix. I took a trip to the ozarks from DesMoines and know the trip is about 5 hours.

The nav system said 7 hours. You can do the same with your phone or a hand held nav and they will say 5 hours.

I've changed every setting possible on the built in nav system, and it doesn't fix the problem. Sad part of it is this problem has been going on for months, maybe years, and gm doesn't seem to care. If that's the case send us a refund of $1000,or get off your high horse and fix the problem.

I was told to go to www.gmnavdisc.com then customer support, then map reporter program, then put in my vehicle information. I did all that to fill out a form for my complaint, but it said product not found. What do we do.

In a nutshell, the Nav sucks! I did a 1300+ mile trip last weekend and it was horrible. I will continue using my Waze app which it usually accurate within 5 to 10 minutes on full tank runs.

So ETA on navigation is way off? Are you surprised? Isn't overall quality way off on these trucks?

I just switch my display to show miles remaining. the only annoying part there is that it switches back to remaining time every new start up.
