'15 Tahoe, Terrible Vision While Backing

I've driven a Tahoe since '00 so I am used to driving a full size SUV. But this new one is the worst with looking over your shouder and backing, forget about it. This version has more sheet metal along the sides and back of the truck making the windows smaller. Smaller windows make for a tough time backing. Larger rear headrest doesn't help either, but vision will improve with the seats reclined. If you are backing next to a car, good luck. Now I do have the rear view camera, but being from the old school I still prefer to look over the shoulder as an additional backing measure, it gives perspective.

I suspect Yukon and Escalade experience the same issue since the body and chassis are similar. If you decide to purchase one of these vehicles make sure you find some where to place the truck drive in reverse and consider the back-up camera if it doesn't come with your model.

Now am I hating life with my truck, negative. The '15 Tahoe is definitely the best one yet. A Tahoe with bells and whistles is like backing in a bubble, sensors are in a 360 to about 10 feet out.

i've learned to rely on the backup camera. I still do a spot check by turning around before I start moving, but the backup camera really does a good job on these large vehicles.

I"ve got to agree. The rear vision in my new Denali is terrible. I can't believe the engineers never got in the car and drove it prior to approving this stupid design. If by chance you have kids watching a movie there is a total black out from the rear view. They should add a button to turn the rear view camera on while driving as the rear view is so poor.

To further the problem GM engineers made the outside mirrors about 50% smaller than the previous model. They are too small to see anything thru.

And has anyone noticed that the lens of the rear camera is always obstructed with rain drops when it's raining out? I never had this problem in my last 3 Denal's but this one is horrible.

I do think They're going to add the feature to switch the camera on a bit later.

Cadillac is going to add it to the CT6 but it will probably (and hopefully) make it to the Escalade and eventually the Yukon/Suburban family

I not happy with the smaller mirrors because of blind spot drivers, you know the ones that hide out in your blind spot to be missed. I recently had a driver decide he need to squeeze into my lane because he was in an exit lane. He was driving on the shoulder on an interstate and came up on my right side. Maybe because I was in New England.. :dunno:

I'd like to have the camera on when driving. its probably safer and yes it takes a long time to trust the backup camera.

My neighbor bought a new Ford F-150 P/U truck and started relying on the rear view camera only for his view while backing.

Ask him about the $6-7000.00 damage he did to my Chevy van as I was passing his driveway while he was backing out one day! Don't get lulled into relying on the technology only! Turn around and look at your surroundings. I only thank God I wasn't riding my motorcycle at the time or that one of my kids or the neighborhood kids wasn't passing by on a bicycle. Any one of us would have been under his wheels!

I noticed that too, that when it rains you cant see very well with the back up camera. Especially horrble when its dark outside and raining

My wife's jeep has the same problem with the camera and rain. I broke out the rainx and put it on the front and rear camera's on here truck and on the Tahoe's rear camera. helped quite a bit. I did also add brighter LED rear tail light lamps. BIG difference on both trucks just doing this. I'm not much on putting LED's all over but the ones purchased were at least double the light output.
