I have a 2014 Silverado- i contacted my Delaer when i noticed paint flaking on the bottom of my drivers door above the anti chip stuff. They picked up the truck this morning and brought me another truck to drive while they fix it. I also am in hopes this is only in this area on my truck and not the whole truck.

I did see this and informed my dealer when i called him.-

Have your dealer look up PIT5313: Paint Peeling Above Anti-Chip Area. For trucks built at Ft. Wayne Assembly (11th VIN Position = Z), Built Prior to 5/15/2014.

Does anybody know what the issue was the Plant had????

Got a new update. When they recived my truck they noticed paint issue under all doors under the trim molding. Dealer is fixing all doors on my truck. Paint shop said the paint must of had some kind of contamination under it as it just peeled of or flaked off when sanding but seemed to be stick closer to the moldings.

Looks like you can add me to the paint flaking club as well. I just noticed mine today its got me totally bummed 40,000 dollar truck and now the paints falling off it you got to be kidding me. First thing I did was get online and check GM TRUCKS to see if others are having similar problems, and yup they are. Now the question is what should I do. Anybody having problems with there paint as well?

2014 Silverado LTZ

Paint is peeling on the drivers door. Truck is white in color and you can see the base white after it flakes off. Very poor paint adhesion. I sent my VIn into a customer GM person and I am in hopes they will open a case for my dealer to look and fix it. Truck has never been off the pavement and ahere paint has flaked off there is no chips or dents. IT JUST IS NOT STUCK to the truck. What gives?

GM has flushed quality control down the toilet. Is that so difficult to understand?

Any pics...?

Sorry no pics but there is three quarter size spots all on the drivers side door, doesn't look like any type of rock damage just flaking paint down to the base coat. Also the paint looks really thin in that area pretty much ruined my day when I saw that. The truck has never even been off road mostly highway driving. I will say this has been the best truck i've ever owned but a 2014 truck shouldn't be having issues with it's paint falling off. Wonder what its going to look like 5 years from now,i don't even want to think about it...

Better yet I noticed My paint flaking back In September and my truck is still not repainted. Gm head quarters said they would cover it but . My dealer is giving me the run around. Every new vehicle has new paint warranty.

I have already been in contact with gm customer service. They have assured me they have spoken with the auto body manager at my local dealer. And that he would call me in the next few days. That was 2 weeks ago... 50 thousand dollar truck and the paint is chipping after 2800 km. and now my passenger door seal is Leaking.

I have paint issues as well. First, mine never got the gravel guard behind the rear wheels, and there are spots of paint coming off on the rocker panels, doors and lower bedside. There is a spot in the gravel guard where there must have been an air bubble under the paint that is now missing as well. The small air dam in front of the rear wheel has a crack due to a void in the plastic.

Pointed them out to the Service Manager on September 30th, and he is blowing them off. It's now been 45 days, and right after the appointment he had the gall to send me a card to remind me about a survey which I did receive. Of course he wanted me to check completely satisfied in all the boxes, but if I answered it, they would not be happy. The sales was great, and the service has been good, but when it comes to the crappy paint or warranty replacement of that plastic part, I guess it is too much for them?

I am going to give him one more call with an ultimatum. Either they take care of it, or I'm going to have to go over their head. If I have to do that, I'm sure it will not be pleasant having to deal with them from that point on, but it is already getting to that point.

This is the worst paint I have ever seen on ANY vehicle, and I have seen plenty. Looked great when taking delivery, but this paint is so thin, you can't even believe it. And the gravel guard was never done right to begin with.

I seen a picture of a blue truck where it had about a 6" swath of paint missing on the doors right at the gravel guard and above. All I want is my truck to be taken care of like it should have been from the factory. They missed some steps in the process.

Talked with the dealer today looks like I'm on a 2 month waiting list for my truck to be painted. and he recommended I put on running boards and 3m tape to prevent it from happening again! I almost had a stroke when he said that! I told him that he had better come up with the cash to do all of his recommendations... can't wait till its painted so I can trade to the Ford dealer across the street from these idiots.

    • Hello hello looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the 2026 2500 HD that I just bought.   Truck has 3500 miles on it four-wheel-drive crew cab and I’m about to put a 6 1/2 inch BDS lift on it 18 x 10 -25 offset with 37’s   Already have the wheels and tires just waiting on the lift install in about three weeks   Question what surprises am I not gonna be happy with?  I’m not new to lifted trucks so I know that acceleration towing gas mileage all that is affected..   Question is those of you that have this truck this powertrain with a 10 speed Allison and have done the mods that I’m doing,,, how bad is it? Is that Allison constantly gonna be hunting for the right gear to go into? And what about towing, acceleration, fuel consumption as mentioned?    Lastly how come I can’t find any ring pinion gear set up for these axles and when could I expect to see them?   I apologize if there’s any typos I’m doing speech to text on my iPhone.
    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
    • No one will care for you like you care for you. Do what you can for as long as you can. IMHO of course.
    • How about them NICKS!!!
    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug
