2014 silverado paint issue

Hello, I have recently purchased a 2014 silverado and have just reached 8000 km. After washing it the other day I realized that my paint has flaked off all the way across the bottom of the doors and on a good part of the box. Has anybody had this happen? And what has the dealer done for you? I have contacted the dealer and they still do not know what course of action they will take. I really do not want an entirely repainted truck.

I washed my truck and noticed some flaking inside of the vertical edge of the bed where it meets the main cab on the driver's side. I put some touch up paint on it as you can't really see this surface unless you look hard but I have no idea what caused it. It was fine from what I remember and I noticed it after I washed my truck. I don't know if any cleaning agents caused it or what.

So it's on the textured part of the door? Could be that the textured material under the paint is causing the issue. I would definitely take it to the dealer and see what they say.

No its on the smooth part. The textured part is good it's the area above that. Gm also told me I could only use paint warranty once. So am I hooped if more flaked later? I will try and post pictures tomorrow. And let you guys know what the dealer has to say.

In that case, ask for a replacement truck, unless they can guarantee you no more paint flaking issues.

Otherwise honour the base warranty like advertised when sold.

Dont buy into that cr*p you are entitled to a car without paint defects!

Document your visits and attempts to have it repaired corectly.

I had 3 friends back in the 70's with chevy vans. The paint was so bad on them it came off in giant sheets, like 3x3 feet.. I see chevy is still working on paint adhesion.

Yeah I will try for a replacement the dealer said it's the worst case they have encountered yet. So I hope so. Im Just waiting for there conclusion to see how they try to fix this mess...

Have your dealer look up PIT5313: Paint Peeling Above Anti-Chip Area. For trucks built at Ft. Wayne Assembly (11th VIN Position = Z), Built Prior to 5/15/2014.

What about the ones they forgot to put anti-chip on behind the rear wheels?

Don't think that was a forget thing they did, more of a production change.

It is real hit or miss, both from Ft Wayne and Silao. It doesn't matter what build date is either. Mine was built in August 2013 I think. I say that because they used disappearing ink on the stickers on the rockers. I took delivery Sept 14th, 2013. Others with Aug 2013 build dates have it. Some with 2014 build dates have it, some don't.

There is no rhyme or reason. More than likely just someone not doing their job, others are.

I started a thread a month or so ago, and it was definitely hit or miss on the whole year of production. Trucks on the lots wit and without, both crew cabs and double cabs. Trim levels were not a factor.

2014 Silverado LTZ

Paint is peeling on the drivers door. Truck is white in color and you can see the base white after it flakes off. Very poor paint adhesion. I sent my VIn into a customer GM person and I am in hopes they will open a case for my dealer to look and fix it. Truck has never been off the pavement and ahere paint has flaked off there is no chips or dents. IT JUST IS NOT STUCK to the truck. What gives?
