Broke my driver side mirror ! :-(

Recommended Posts

I was backing out of garage last night and paying too much attention to rear monitor instead of mirror and I hit the side of the garage door frame. Not hard, but hard enough to fold my mirror and cause the central support shaft that holds the mirror to the motor to break.

Does anyone have a parts diagram and or parts vendor that can provide the parts to fix this? My fear is that I have to buy a whole new mirror. Since this is an SLT, it has heat, turn signal, autodim, motorization, folding, and puddle lights. It has got to be an expensive part to replace. And it is such a shame because it is such a little piece that is broken.

I PMed motomedic as well to see if he has any leads. If anyone else has any ideas, I would appreciate it. Thanks for your help!

Great advice notwithstanding, I found some info for anyone else this may happen to. The mirror has a seprate motor assembly inside that can be replaced. This part costs about $50 to order online. Much better than the $500 or so that I found out this mirror would cost at a dealer. I have attached an exploded view in case anyone else has this problem. I know that this has happened to at least one other person because I saw a broken mirror for sale on ebay with this exact same issue. The part number for this left side motor is 22919755. I will post an update of the repair once the part is in.

I broke the mirror glass on my passenger door (SLT Power Folding, Auto Dim, LED Turn Signal). Any suggestions on where I can get inexpensive replacement glass?

I ordered mine from a web dealer called GM Parts Direct. If you type in GM Parts, you can find several online dealers. Some of them require your VIN which helps ensure that your part ordered will fit. There are several different configurations of that mirror. Be warned though, they are SLOW on delivery. I am still waiting, but hopefully it arrives today!

I didn't think the passenger side mirror had auto-dim. Am I wrong? I have rear view and driver's side in my SLT All Terrain that dim, but not the passenger side...

On some of the parts sights that require the VIN, it cross references the part number to the original equipment in your truck. One of the GM parts dealers is actually a Chevy Dealership in Corpus Christi. I called them and they confirmed for me.

Just did my repair last night. The old motor was easy to remove with 4 small torx screws and a wiring harness. New one installed with ease. The mirror itself has tabs that slide into slots on the motor assemble from the top. I tilte the motor assy all the way down to get most access to the tabs. I slide the mirror roughly into place then used a screw driver to gently pry down on the mirror by using the housing. There is a distinct snap when the mirror is seated. So far so good. Seems to have solved the problem.

The glass on both of my side mirrors was stolen from my 2015 sierra slt z71 this week. Fortunately they didnt damage any of the housing components. I already ordered new ones which set me back about 500 bucks for the pair. Is this something easy to install or should i cough up the 220 dollar labor fee at the dealer?

    • Can ask that about a lot of places.   Holiday sells 91 for $1 over 87 octane. BP 93 is 80 cents. Amoco 93 is 80 cents Kwik Trips is $1.20 for 92 or whatever they have and $1 for the 91.   I know that this is not exactly same as what you are saying with the premium to premium debate of those two stations but why is there such a difference. Top Tier this and that, it's all BS. All the fuel comes from the same damn refinery, so give me a break.
    • Why does Mobil Premium cost 90 cents a gallon more than Shell Premium when their regular offerings are but pennies apart?
    • Was all the way down to $3.69 a gallon but then jumped back to $3.99 just because for some reason.   Diesel floats between $4.80's to $5.10ish a gallon. I even saw Diesel #1 for $6.09 today but nobody in there right mind even buys that in the summer.
    • Mine just keeps lagging or getting stuck on the reverse camera. When I turn off the truck, get out, and close the door it will still stay on. It’s very intermittent and I would not be able to duplicate the issue.
    • I was checking out fuel prices at my farm fuel retailer at their pumps and yes the farm price is a bit lower than the non dyed fuel and was glad to see that the regular farm gas price has dropped a lot from what it had been but what blew me away was the price of diesel as the spread now compared to before the prices went up earlier in the year, diesel was actually slightly lower than gas which was a switch from the theme the last number of years. However that sure isn't the theme lately and definitely not right now. The prices I will post are not from that retailer but just looking at gasbuddy for the main city in this area and instead of posting the lowest price someone found I will list the higher price ( and that may not be the highest price, just whatever someone posted on gasbuddy ).   So regular gas and there are a lot of stations listing the same price for regular is 1.68 a liter, premium 2.00 a liter. Diesel 2.03 a liter for a top price I saw on diesel.   Figures out to 6.36 a us gallon Canadian funds for regular and 7.68 for diesel. With the US exchange rate it would be 4.58 us for regular and 5.53 for diesel.    Thought I would figure that out to get a picture of what it settles out like compared to various US prices and its about the same as the current price in Fairbanks AK as Anchorage tends to be lower. So yes, these would be the prices and higher along the way on the Alaska highway where they know they have a captured market !, for fuel prices for those beginning the long drive back to the lower 48   The problem is our Canadian dollar and going to the states that have the high prices, boy do we pay then !
