Are you talking about "swing shifts" or straight 2nd or 3rd turn?

I spent about 12 years working straight 3rd shift.  I actually liked it.  It freed up my daytime hours so if I had an appointment to go to I could do it without taking time off work.  I would sleep 3-4 hours on Friday morning and the get up.  That way I could sleep at night on the weekends.  One big motivator for me was the 10% shift differential, which increased my pay over $2.00/hr (do the math).

I worked 2nd shift for about 6 months and it would be great for a single person, but it didn't work out well for me.

Now that I have alot more vacation and personal time available, Daylight shift is best for me.

I would hate "swing" shifts...  Your schedule would always be screwed up!!!

Got a friend who works at Shields (a local plastic warehouse)

He works one week 6am to 6pm then the next week he works 6pm to 6am . sometimes he doesnt know what day it is

Rotating/Swing shifts...

If the money is good, then I would give it a try...  You could always quit if you don't like it.

Well at LPD we did rotating shifts from my start time until the last 2 years(this is year 2 of permanents).  We used to rotate monthly backwards.  midnights to afternoons, afternoons to days, days to nights.  Another city here does it every 2 weeks.  I think every week would definitely blow.  It took me around 2 weeks to get the sleep pattern adjusted.  I feel at least in our line of work that you should rotate at least when you're new...and our probationary guys do...to get the exposure to the different work on various shifts.  Afternoons is tough to work.  I'd end up staying up half the night after work as you're wound up, then I'd sleep the morning away and get nothing done.  I've been on permanent days the last 2 and love it.
