2014 vs 2015 Silverado

Don't short change the 6L80, it will hold quite a bit of power and do so for a long time. The 6L90 isn't stronger than the 6L80 in the way your thinking. The CTS-V uses the 6L90 because it has a completely different computer architecture.

I was under the impression the 6l80/90 share the same tcm (t43) which is housed inside the valvebody and interfaces with the gen IV lsx ecm (E38, E68, or E78 depending on year and vehicle) The biggest difference between the 6l80 and 6l90 is the addition of pinion on the input planetary, wider stronger output gearset, more clutch plates, and stronger case along with other little differences. The 6l90 is a bout 1.5" longer than the 6l80 due to this. While the 6l80e can hold up much better than the 4l60/65/70 it replaced, it's still not as strong as I'd like or as GM liked apparently.

I really don't understand the complaints about the 3:08. I love mine and it has plenty of power even when towing. Yup it downshifts. That is how GM keeps the tranny cool and from lugging and burning it up. Let the 5.3 scream if needed. It loves it.

I agree with you NBSGMC about the 3.08, my wife and I both have 2014 1500's, both have the 5.3 but I have the 3.42 and hers has the 3.08 both trucks run great. Her truck has plenty of get up and go, not a whole lot of difference between them. I run E85 in both trucks BTW.

G'Day to all from Queensland, Australia. I have just joined this great forum…lots of good information here. I am about to buy/order my first Silverado 2500HD LTZ Duramax 6.6L TD. You guys (and gals) are so lucky in USA to buy these trucks so unbelievably cheap. By the time I pay all fees, taxes, GST, shipping costs and conversion to RHD mine will cost me about $130,000 (AUS)! (Weak $AUS does not help either). But to me its well worth it to get a good truck. My question is this the info I got says it was built after August 2014. What is the significance of that date? How does it differ from say a 2015 model built in say July 2014? Thanks for help. I may have more questions in the future. Cheers
