2014 vs 2015 Silverado

$5k?!? It must have other options. VW's mobile site shows a $2-3000 difference. Plus with the added torque I don't think it's fair to compare it to base models. The smaller diesel Gulf I drove in Germany felt like it'd smoke the 2.5l ones my company has in NH.

Ram diesel is ramping up production by three due to demand. I guess a lot a people plan on keeping those for ten years to break even. I would be interested to see the little Canyon diesel numbers.

Still baffles me considering the Canadian dollar has been so close to ours for a while now. Plus your money can't rip.

The new ones don't have the hockey boy I thought? I'll have to check tonight as I don't keep left over international currency on me.

But yeah, I still say. The EPA is killing the Diesel engine..

Yes, that's exactly right and it's too bad. While the gas engines have been getting better and better, the Diesels have really been hurt by the recent regs. The Ecodiesel in the Ram should be putting out ~300 HP and 500 lb-ft and getting 30-32 MPG highway when empty. That would make it a lot more interesting to us.

As it is, the 5.0 Cummins is only going to exceed those power numbers by a little bit and I'm guessing it'll only get 3-4 MPG better than GM's 6.2. So it'll get a bit better mileage, but not really that much and the 6.2 will still blow its doors off towing something up a hill.

Don't get me wrong, it still sounds like it'll be a fantastic engine, just not nearly as good as it could have been if the power was in the 350-370 range, TQ in the 625-650 range with mileage in the 28-30 MPG range. That would really be something! For an engine like that, I'd probably switch. But I don't think it's possible with the current rules of the Green Police.

I'm surprised to actually see you guys have an interest in the 8 speeds. Have none of you driven the new rams? It's constantly hunting for gears and saps all the hemis power up. Why you would want an 8 speed behind a 6.2 is even more baffling to me. The 6.2 has a huge powerband and doesn't need the gears to make up for anything. More gears make sense on smaller engines, not the big ones. Even on the 5.3 I find 6 speeds annoying sometimes, you only ever need a couple for putting around. I find the 6 speed the perfect combo with our engines overall. The 4.3 might benefit from the 8 speed but even then I don't really see it.

I personally only want the 8 speed for the added strength. The 6l80e is fine for stock power levels, but for where I want to be it's not. The CTS-v with 552 hp supercharged 6.2 gets the 6l90, same as the HD's. That's saying GM knows the limit of the 6l80e. The 8l90e that the trucks will get is the same as what is going behind the new C7 z06 vette with 650hp. I will admit though going through all the gears will get annoying with the 8l90e

Well we are talkin about trucks here not little cars, my buddies wife has a city jetta with 4 cyl gasser that thing gets almost 50mpg too...and it like 5 grand cheaper. Can buy a lot of gas for 5 grand...

Ohh ahh. Your right a lot of people get big in their pants when they hear diesel in light trucks and cars. But as you have ran the math, just like I have its a stupid by. Due to regulations and fuel prices, diesel only works in HS applications, even then its not economical its because you need it.

Don't short change the 6L80, it will hold quite a bit of power and do so for a long time. The 6L90 isn't stronger than the 6L80 in the way your thinking. The CTS-V uses the 6L90 because it has a completely different computer architecture.
