Purchasing vehicles out of state

We are in TN and we have finally found the 4runner that my wife likes but it is in Indiana. How does that work?

Do we pay the sales tax in Indiana or do we pay the tax when we register/title the vehicle in TN? If we pay the taxes at the time of title/registration, how do we make sure we are not being charged taxes in Indiana? If we agree to a price of $39,000, would that be the out-the-door price since we wouldn't have to worry about sales tax?

Taxes are paid in the state you live in. What part of indiana is it in?

It's at Butler Toyota. Looks like it's in Indianapolis.

The Trail Premiums go for around $38K. Of all the SUV's she's looked at it is by far the cheapest. The new Grand Cherokees are $45-50K+ and the Q7 she looked at was $60K. All cars now are ridiculously expensive anyways. Hell, the new Silverados are almost $50K, even more when you get into the Denali.

Last I purchased a car out of state, I paid the state tax on vehicle when I registered for plates in my home state. As mentioned sales tax is only charged for the state you register the vehicle in.

Yes ... You'll pay the sale tax when you register it, in your home state.

Just remember your monthly payment will increase approximately $20.00 per $1000.00, per month on average. So if it's possible, pay the tax, title and registration out of pocket ...

That was my plan. I'd rather pay it out of pocket than pull it into the monthly payments, especially since we are financing through a credit union and purchasing out of state.
