It all depends on the officer. If its just 5 over i usually will not pull someone over. We've even been told on our busy highways if the flow of traffic is going 5-10mph over we should let it be. It would cause more traffic problems to go racing through traffic to catch someone barely exceeding the limit.

I would imagine if you picked one out of a many traveling along at 10 over would get you the "why me, everyone else was doing it" argument. When you get that argument, what answer do you give? The cops that I know use the "when you go fishing, do you catch all the fish?" answer.

Going back to another post, it is not really the speed that causes issues, it is the speed difference that creates the issues. Drivers running at the speed limit of 60mph in a large pack are expecting all cars around them are also happy at 60mph. The one big change on Ontario roads is the effect of the 50kmph over law. Used to be pretty common to have cars/bikes running at close to 100mph across the top of Toronto on the 401. Made it near impossible to changes lanes safely some nights.

Thats what we say. We normally have someone "leading the pack" they come by speeding so everyone behind them speeds up. So we try to get the first car to let everyone know. Had three cars yesterday chasing each other on the highway running about 100mph. One of the guys said he was only doing it because they were. The guy driving the second car said he did it because he was on the phone with the police and he needed to get close for the license plate.

I've heard that 401 used to be a raceway before too. The 100 km/h (62 MPH) just seems so slow. Most of the area is rural, the highway is in excellent condition so one should easily be able to run 75-80 on roads like that. Most people seem to do that already anyhow. Of course once you get near Toronto it all changes as traffic around the city is horrible sometimes.

Should be very easy for the second car to prove his story. Could he prove it? Since he must have call the cops(cops aren't going to call him to ask for his assistance) a simple press of the redial button on his cellphone should do it. How do you keep a straight face when the younger generation drivers(driver in the second car had to be under 25, and likely even being under 20) come up with some of the stories you get?

My mother used to have a 1964 Galaxie 500XL back in early 70's. Car had the 390 engine and no exhaust from h-pipe back. She got stopped for speeding (80 in a 60, mph back then), cop walked up to her window and asked (actually yelled) "where is your muffler?", my mother said without missing a beat, "in the trunk". Officer then asked if she knew how fast she was going, she said "80", he asked her why are you going so fast with your child in the car(me)? She said, again without missing a beat, I am almost out of gas, so I was hurrying home before I ran out. No ticket for either offence, and no discussion either. The officer just looked skyward and sent us on our way. Those were the good old days of living in a small rural town in Ontario Canada.

No he didn't. Our 911 call's or even non emergency call's will show up in the system. I just told him he didn't and yeah he was only 18.

It can be difficult to stay serious with some people. They are still so immature even people in their 30's these days.

Top Gear (TV Show) recently did a comparison, the Crown Vic didn't fair too well

Compared to what? Which Top Gear, original or US one?

Posted

It was top gear u.s. And to be fair they were using 98-2002 models which were the worst accelerating and handling crown vics. In 2001 they switched to performance improved heads which gave more power. Then in 2003 the entire frame was changed along with better breaks and better steering. The last performance update was in 04 with a mercury marauder like airbox. Its all little changes but if you take a last year crown vic (2011) it will outdo a 1998 hands down. Those were some miserable driving cars for me.

Alot of that show is BS. I have chased cars that were much quicker than the van and kept up. I dont even like crown vics especially compared to my charger but they could have atleast used the newer models. All they were doing was building hype for the new cars.

In IL, if your doing 55 on the Highway (posted speedlimit) your going to get rear ended! You have to do atleast 15 over to stay out of the way. Most people do 20+over and are still getting blown off the road. It's crazy, but it's true

It actually is not true at all. After the first accident the highway would be stopped in both directions for miles while people gawked. Now no one can even do the speed limit.

In Canada we have multilane highways that prevent being rear ended by the blind faster drivers.

Using the logic of speeding to stay safe is one of those that comes from someone attempting to use humour as an excuse. I seriously doubt you have ever even seen an accident caused by someone doing the speed limit and being over-run by a pack of speeding cars. Even if you were, the impact would be exactly the same as being hit while sitting still by a car racing by at 15mph.

    • I agree with Tim.  As tech heavy as engines are these days, no way I’d be an early buyer of the new 6.6.  Of course, I bought my ‘26 Denali w/the 6.2 after dumping my Tundra with it’s defective 3.5 liter imploding engine disaster, so I’m a little gun-shy.  That said, my 6.2 has been rock solid.  I don’t drive it like I do my BMW Z4 M40i, but I don’t baby it either.  I got a V8 for a reason.  But I’m averaging 18 around town and 22 highway.  I have seen 24 highway as well when I wasn’t loaded up heavy.  Considering my Tundra with the twin turbo V6 only got 14.5 in town and 17 on the road, I’ll take the 6.2 all day, every day.  If I were you, I’d grab a ‘26 while you can.  Inventories are probably gonna start dropping and I’ll bet the deals will start looking sweeter as well.
    • I am curious if anyone has figured out a way to add an hard button AUX or 360 Camera switch to the center row of switches. I have a 2021 AT4, and want to split the hill decent button and add a 360 camera button so that you don't have to go into the center display and locate the camera functionality, etc...   My father's 2024 Yukon XL AT4 and it has a hard button, see below. I found this thread on the Yukons, but it seems like there may not be a part number for the 2021 sierras. https://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/255339-adding-hard-button-for-camera-on-2021/ Anyone else figured this out. Seems like it would need to be a custom switch!   I am getting ready to install the auto stop/start eliminator, so would be nice to knock them out at once.     Upvote1Downvote0Go to comments
    • Looks like the entire state is burning. 😬
    • Through the years it hasn't been my typical method as I tried to drop oil on an engine that was hot from having been worked, however that was not always practical and had to fire up a unit and let it warm up reasonably well and drop the oil when I had the time to do it but am referring to not only vehicles but a variety of farm equipment and highway tractors etc. However on a vehicle where one is crawling under it and the exhaust is nearby to ones body and if wanting to pull the plug without danger of being hit with boiling hot oil or attempting to remove a HOT oil filter, its sure safer and easier to not have everything smoking hot and can remove the filter right away when under the vehicle and let it all drain. Of course its not the end of the world if a bit of oil stays in the engine that might have eventually found its way out, I like to get out as much as possible but any oil changes that take place in shops would rarely be sitting around for very long at all before the plug is thrown back in and filter slapped on and oil poured in and sent out the door quick like. There would be very little time spent ( assuming they even did it ) in starting the engine with oil to fill the filter, then waiting to verify the level on the stick. A good reason to check ones oil level shortly after a shop changed the oil on a vehicle just to make sure its correct and to look under for any oil around the drain plug or filter.
