4.8 to 5.3 swap

I was doing an oil change and found some bits of what I think is piston ring stuck to my drain plug. The engine still runs fine but I know its coming soon. I have a truck with a 5.3 in it that runs fine and I was thinking of switching them. My question is...Will it be just a straight switch or am I going to need the PCM also. I'm also switching the tranny, will the drive shaft work. It,s been a long time since I got into anything like this. The 4.8 is in a 2001 Sierra and the 5.3 is coming from a 2000 Sierra (both are extended cab) any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you have the 5.3 pcm then it's not anything hard to swap over. They are almost the same engine except for the obvious. Everything should line right up.

Just swap engines and have the tune updated for a 5.3. The 5.3 will run fine on the 4.8 tune initially.
