Hi,

I am looking for some help. I have a 2008 GMC Sierra extended cab 2wd Z 71 with supper springs on it. I'm thinking of towing my 1972 Chevy Blazer with a Auto Transport Vehicle Trailer rented from U-Haul.

The trailer weighs 2,210. The Blazer weighs 3,677 but has a rag top so it will be a few hundered pounds less. My GMC has the towing package and I have a Resse 5000lb hitch. The trip is 200 miles mostly flat just a few bridges and off

ramps. It seems that I am within the specs for towing.

I guess my main concern is tongue weight since all the weight in the Blazer is in the front? Thanks for your help.

From the U-Haul site:

  • Max load: 5,290 lbs.
  • Gross vehicle weight: 7,500 lbs. max.
  • Empty weight: 2,210 lbs.

Look into just an OEM hitch, maybe you can find one at a junkyard. I'm sure an OEM hitch for the GMT900s are rated at way more than what you need. Once you get a better hitch then you should be fine. Or you could ask around to see if anybody has a car trailer that would be longer than the Uhaul trailer. That way it will be less tongue weight and more on the trailer axles. Whatever you do make sure the front of the Blazer is on the front of the trailer like you're thinking. If you have more weight on the back end then the trailer will want to sway.

Tell them you will be hauling a S-10 or other small car. I hauled a 88 1/2 ton on a U-Haul trailer with my truck and they told me that I could not haul that truck on their trailer with my truck!!! I told the dealer that I would only be hauling a small truck and he said OK. I would not be afraid of using your truck to pull the trailer and Blazer, you will like the surge brakes on the trailer you do not need a brake controler for it. :jester:

Back the blazer on the trailer. Keep it centered over the axles of the trailer. That will keep your tongue weight down. Double check that hitch though.
