CB Antenna

I will be installing a CB in my truck soon and i'm wondering if the Glass CB Antenna is any good? Chevy4x4trucks have this on his. Good range with this antenna or should i get a better one???

No problem with mine, worked great, just as good as the two 5' wilson fiberglass whips that I had before (not to mention the antenna looks a lot nicer too).

FireCadet613 has a glass mount on his blazer and my old CB and he said it works great.

Did you get yours at Radio Shack or is there a better one out there?

I got one of these glass mounts on my truck and I get about a 2 mile transmit max and about a 3 mile recieve this is checked with truckers when I am drivin down the highway. I am not to impressed with it but hey it does the job and it looks alot better than a big ole whip not that I am against them or anything.

You've probably seen this mount on this or another board before ( by SoMnDmax who designed it), but it looks great and is very strong. Don't know if it works with previous generation body style.

i tried the glass mount--it only had a 1/4 mile range-----went back to magnetic mount for now--at least it gets 2 - 2 1/5 miles

lovette, I'm getting the same CB! How good is it? I might want this setup also. Hows your avg. range? I only thing i dont like is the extra cord hanging on the ground. Anything you would change if you did it again?

Points: I might relocate the small box behind the dash instead of under it. The CB comes with a small plate that you can mount to have a permanent "plug-in." Saw one installation where the cigarette lighter was removed and the connector plate mounted there. I just skipped the connector mounting plate altogether, that's why the extra cord.

I have an old Cobra 25 LTD from a previous truck which I prefer, but tried the Cobra 75WST because of lack of under dash space. It talks fine. It's got a little Gray 125 helper for more range, not sure of exact distances.

Everyone told me not to skimp on the antenna and a good studmount for best performance. Can you even tune those glass mounted antennas?

Are you going for looks or effect? Do you have a budget? I got hooked up with a Ranger many years ago and using a Wilson 1000 mag mount dead center of my cab's roof. hillbillish looking but what the heck I am a hillbilly .My range is outrageous. I can not talk highly enough about Ranger and my Wilson . When I was running my 500W I carried on a conversation with my buddy in Frankfurt Germany , I was sitting on the drop zone at Ft.Bragg, NC. Without the 500W amp , the FCC quit threating me and I am down to 100 mile xmit. Good enough for me. I have the 2950 myself that has been hopped and worked to use the CB freqs. Check out this site.

I have Bed Rails on my truck and i would like to mount an antenna on there. I can't find anything would fit around the round rails. I see all of these mounts for small tubes like for mirrors but nothing bigger. What should i do?

You could try to make something of your own, check out a plumbing store and look at the pipe hangers. That may be a good place to start. I personally mounted mine w/ some mirror mounts through the holes in the bed that go to the stake pocket.

As far as running the wires you can check out my install on my website to get you a little better idea. When I had the ones out back I did it the same way, but came out the vents behind the seat and came up through the big drain holes in the bed. Made a great install and you couldn't see any wires.

Check out McMaster-Carr.com. They have tons specialty brackets and stuff.

You can use a u-bolt and a piece of angle or bar stock to attach to your bed rail. They have rubber coated u-bolts so it won't scratch up anything. Here is a pic of my idea.
